This week Dad picked up a Snapping Turtle for us to observe. (Yes we know they are dangerous, we're being careful I promise) Its been alot of fun. We 've made him a little habitat and observed him swimming and diving into mud. We've named him Snappy (the boys name) and Terdy (us girls choice).

May. 29, 2007 Feild Trip: Sceince City, Kansas City, MO
We had alot of fun and learned a ton at Science City yesterday. The most memorable occasion was the viewing of a 3 D film about Dinosaurs! Benjamin (age 1) was terrified of the 5 story tall dinosaurs! Natalie and Logan we're super excited to learn about how fossils show us what Dinosaurs are like. They cant wait to come back and play in the "dig". Daddy got to talk to a real palentologist. But the children were'nt interested in him. :) The children also enjoyed the Planetarum where they heard the story of Persius and Andromeda. Not to mention all the "cool sciency stuff" we did. Ooo and the cookies from the chocolate factory! We purchased the season pass so we will be back again soon!

My family was not very athletic growing up so I never played on a sports team. Dear Husband played Tball as a kid but only one season. We both started several programs in our years but never completed any of them. So one of our goals for the children is the mastering of one extra ciricular activity in their school years as well as summer sport activities. So this year Natalie joined the city T ball team. She really likes it and can throw pretty far.
What is she learning?
-to stand in line.
-social skills.
-hand eye coordination
-team effort
What are we all learning?
-How to get somewhere on time.
-how some things are a right of passage, Natalie is old enough to play ball. Logan will have to wait another year.
-How to do things with out sister (or brother).
-Getting involved in the community (that is hard to do when you are in the house all the time)
Here is a photo of Natalie taken during her first T ball practice.

May. 25, 2007 Why we do what we do.
| We are coming on our second year of homeschooling. It has been a joy. I have learned so much about God, my children and myself. Mostly that "school" is happening all the time, not just in your formal lessons. I learned very little in school. The short time my daughter was in preschool caused us to be so very distant. The teacher is the main source of knowledge and trust, I shouldn't give that responsibility to someone I know nothing about and hope for the best. When I teach my children, I begin to know them. God is willing to help me, even when my needs seem trivial in comparison to world hunger. I am NOTHING before my prayer time and coffee in the morning. All things are possible with God, all things are nothing with out Him. Children are persons and should be treated as such. I love my family and the call the Lord has put on our lives. I cant wait to see what he will do with us! |
