• Dec. 1, 2008 - Must Read Articles!! Melamine in Baby Food & Dangerous Tires... Are U Safe?

Posted By BChsMamaof3
I thought that I would pass along a couple of links to a recent article the the Globe and Mail published after finding out that the harmful chemical 'melamine' was found in baby food here in Canada. You can read the entire article HERE.

Another equally terrifying story was previously aired on ABC News and shows you how to tell
if your tires on you vehicle are a ticking time bomb ready to explode... literally! If you are like me you probably had no idea that tires actually have a shelf life of around 6 years. After that time they begin to dry out and can result in the tread coming completely off of the tire while you are driving causing an accident. Check out the short news video HERE and find out how to check when your tires were manufactured.

• Nov. 30, 2008 - Christmas Cards

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Science and other Hands On activities

We have had a busy day of card making today *grin*. The kids have been cutting out felt trees and getting glue all over themselves!

Punching out felt Christmas balls and of course more gluing!

They're still wet in the photo, that's why they look discolored but I think that they did a pretty good job and they can't wait to mail them away to everyone :) Hope you all had a great afternoon to!

• Nov. 30, 2008 - Thanks-Giving

Posted By ~*Sheila~* in Barracudas Blots (Blog Thoughts)

Life brings all kinds of difficulties, trials and hardships...

Rejection from Relatives and Friends, Friends that come and go with seasons or even days and weeks.

Financial Struggles, Broken Vehicles,  Broken Spirits, Depression, lack of creativity, drive, and sadness.

But, through all these things....if we stop and count our blessings..

We can find

HOPE and LOVE.

In The Thanks-Giving you ALL bring...

I love you my kiddos.

Thanks for keeping your Mom going.

• Nov. 29, 2008 - Show & Tell Friday ~ Acorn Earrings

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Fun Stuff

I thought that this would be the perfect thing to share for this week's Show & Tell at Mary's blog :)

Last month my good bloggy friend Kathleen aka Coffee Mom had a contest on her blog giving away a piece of jewelry from an Etsy shop that she had ran across and I was the lucky winner!! I was allowed to pick anything that I wanted and I fell in love with a beautiful pair of crystal acorn earrings. Well, they arrived today and I am absolutely smitten with them *grin*.

I just had to take photos of the package as I opened it because it was so cute :) As I pulled out the little box wrapped in yellow ribbon, tagged by Lillyella, I just knew something special had to be inside. As I opened the box there was another little velum envelope waiting for me wrapped in pretty yellow tissue paper....

and my lovely acorn earring were waiting for me inside :)

Thanks Kathleen!!!! I LOVE them :)

• Nov. 29, 2008 - When It Rains It Pours

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Family

That was true in more ways than one today. It has been very grey and wet here for the last couple of days and today we had planned an outing to visit with friends and participate in our homeschool groups show and tell but unfortunately we couldn't make it :(

It seems that we are having a real bout of bad luck lately when it comes to participating in our regular outings. No nature walks *sob*, and Dh has been terribly ill the last couple of days. So today he just wasn't feeling well enough after picking up his paycheck and grocery shopping to stay in town long enough for show and tell so we headed back home so he could rest. That's okay though. I would rather he was resting and on the mend than making him stay in town where it was absolutely miserable weather.

There's always next week right?

• Nov. 28, 2008 - My First Necklace

Posted By Sandpiper in Show & Tell

I think I may have found a new hobby!
(I don't have too many hobbies, but I like this one because it's creative, doesn't take too long to complete and I can use it to make gifts for others.)
When Canadagirl came to visit last June, she brought her beading to show my dd.  I was mesmerized by all of the beads and I was inspired by this new craft.
For today's Show & Tell, as promised, I'm sharing a photo of my first ever beaded necklace.

Photobucket

It's kind of hard to tell what the large round beads look like, so I took a close-up below.  They are multi-coloured with little hearts and flowers in the glass.  I found them at Michaels and knew I'd like them.

So, now I have a new addiction: beads!
And my daughter and I can share in this hobby together.

For more Show & Tell posts visit Canadagirl.
Have a lovely weekend and I've added some Christmas music in my sidebar for your listening pleasure!

• Nov. 26, 2008 - Silk Screened T-shirt

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Art Appreciation

When the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.

Leonardo Da Vinci

K has been taking art lessons at the 4 Cats Art Academy and it has been great!! He loves it :) So far they have had a chance to do self portraits, still life, paper mache art, clay, and this week they learned how to silk screen their own t-shirts. All I can say is can I go!? I would love to learn how to silk screen. It's actually on my lists of courses to do *grin*.

• Nov. 26, 2008 - There's Never Enough Parts

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Family

Why is it that whenever a vehicle breaks down and you have to make a trip into town you never come home with enough stuff?? Dh left home early this morning to get new brake pads, drums and some other stuff that I can't remember and got home just before lunch. Not long after he was pulling everything apart he realized that he was going to have to break one of the brake lines because it was completely stripped and wasn't going to come off. Guess what? Yup, you guessed it.... no new brake line to replace it :(

Luckily my dad is in town today also and my sister was able to get a hold of him and get him to call home :) One brake line coming up! LOL.

• Nov. 26, 2008 - Pick Up in Port McNeill

Posted By BChsMamaof3 in Family

I am completely exhausted!! Yesterday we spent all day in town between art classes in the morning and our homeschool support group meeting in the evening, and today Dh needed a ride to Port McNeill to pick up his truck. It's a 3 hour round trip and I ended up getting stuck behind semi truck after semi truck :( With all of the wet roads and mud from the big trucks it made for a very dirty and blurry trip. I think I nearly used every ounce of window washer fluid I had :)

The main road into town takes you pretty much right to the harbor and it was great to see the sun when we got there :)

I thought that I would take a few photos to share with you :) The above one is overlooking the ferry ramp that takes you to Alert Bay and Sointula....

and this one shows you more of the harbor. There were some really great large fishing boats tied up today. Quite a few of them K was familiar with from past tugboat rides with his dad :)

Dh ran into a bit of a snag when he went to leave with his truck. He has been experiencing trouble with his rear breaks locking up when the truck sits for to long and today was a doozy! One rear tire was completely seized while the other was spinning wildly trying to free the other up. Good old me with my trusty camera caught it all on film of course *grin*. It was quite interesting to see one tire going, digging big ruts in the muddy gravel while the other dragged like a limp chicken :)

I wasn't sure if he was going to get it freed up though. After I while I thought that I was going to have to take him all the way home again without the truck :( Luckily it finally let loose and he was on his way!

We stopped to visit with Grandma and catch a bite to eat before we headed home again. Dh is going to have a look at the brakes tomorrow morning and see what needs repairing, hopefully it is just something minor. If he does need to get parts he is going to have to commandeer my car for the day though :( That means we might have to miss out on our nature walk and we were really looking forward to going this week since we had to miss out last week because of my back. I'm really hoping that we can make it!! I guess we will just have to wait until tomorrow and see what happens.
