I am a fairly decent cook. I don't hear too many complaints anyway. I even hear a few compliments. What I can't figure out is why, even when following a recipe, any meal I am making to impress anyone will always fail. It doesn't matter how many times I've used the recipe, something will go wrong.
I have pondered that maybe God is trying to humble me. As I am happily going about the company dinner preparations, I am thinking how everyone will compliment me on this fine meal. They will ask, "How did you get the meat so moist?" and "What spices did you use?" Oh yes, I am full of myself and my cooking skills.
Evidently many other women have this very problem. I have heard many a pitiful tale of how when the recipe is under pressure it will flop. No one so far has shared their innermost thoughts during the preparation. So, I am left to consider that they are much more righteouss than I.
All of this makes me wonder, did Sarah have this problem when Abraham stepped into the tent and said, "Um hon, I've brought home a couple of guys to dinner, I hope that won't be a probem."
At least Abraham had told her what he wanted made, and even enlisted some help for her. Maybe he knew that under pressure her cooking left a lot to be desired and he didn't want his special guests to go back to heaven with salmonella. He gave her the easiest thing to prepare no less, bread.
Then while Abraham feeds his guests, Sarah is eavesdropping on the conversation taking place outside the tent. Maybe she was hoping to hear, "This is really good bread Abraham. How did you get it so soft and chewy?" |
