I'm not a greenhorn homeschooler. We've been at this adventure for eleven academic years now. I've been to curriculum fairs and homeschool conferences. I've read nearly everything there is to read about homeschooling, learning all about learning styles and just what homeschooling is all about. I've been a homeschool support group co-ordinator for a combined total of four years.
My decision to homeschool was based on what was best for my children. Curriculum choices were made in an effort to make learning an enjoyable experience. I've incorporated games when applicable, directed evening's of entertainment based on the current period of study, and I have even managed to take my children on some field trips. Learning new things is always easier when it's fun.
Then why, oh why, did I hear myself saying what I said today? Boy 1 was being fidgety and kept running off to play instead of doing his schoolwork. After my attempts to get him to focus on the task at hand had failed, I finally hollered,
"Sit down and do your schoolwork! You can have fun later!"
