Dear Man and I decided that we wanted to adopt children even before we were married. We wanted to have at least two children of our own, and then adopt more children after that. To be honest I don't remember why we came up with this plan, other than that we wanted to have some of our own, as well as some others to call our own.
It was rather presumptious of us, as you can't really know if you will be able to have children, or how many you will actually end up with. The Lord worked it out and we did have two beautiful little girls.
The important thing was that we decided on this course of action, together. Both Dear Man and I have adopted cousins, so this wasn't a new idea for the family.
As we had decided to wait on adopting a child until after our first two children were born, we put the plan on the back burner and forgot about it. We didn't do any other planning.
Then, one day, I went to visit a new friend who had just adopted a little girl from China. I fell in love with that little girl! I went straight home and reminded Dear Man of our earlier decision on adoption. I wanted a baby from China!
About this same time I became a believer and started attending church. Two families at this church were foster parents and we began to ask them a myriad of questions. We would go home and discuss them and go back to church the next Sunday with more questions.
One day the pastor's wife let us know that classes were starting for becoming foster parents. Dear Man and I went through the inteview process, the classes, the background checks, and health checks. We were finally seleced to become foster parents! I couldn't wait for our first baby to come!
