Have you ever taken the time to play Pooh Sticks? You know, the game that Winnie the Pooh and Piglet play.
Here is how you play:
First each player finds a nice stick, large enough to see when it is in the water.
Next all players walk onto a bridge that has water flowing under it. (Bridges over highways do not a game of Pooh Sticks make. It's also illegal.)
Each player lines up along the rail on the side of the bridge that the water is heading under.
At the same moment each player drops their stick into the moving water.
Each player now races to the other bridge railing and waits to see whose stick comes sailing out like a little boat first.
The first stick to show itself is the winner.
That is how you play Pooh Sticks. This game is played by my family whenever we have the chance. Today that opportunity arose. We were out for a drive looking at several camp sites, and we came across a little bridge that was the start of a hiking trail.
Everyone ran to the bridge looking for sticks and pine cones. Boy 2 learned a science lesson today, you can't play Pooh Rocks.
There really isn't much that can compare to seeing your children and grown husband racing and laughing from one side of a bridge to another, looking for floating sticks. I love the simple life. |
