• Jul. 10, 2006 - Camping in the Driveway

Posted in HomesCool Mom

Have you ever seen that commercial where a family gets the car and camper all loaded up to go camping, and the dad backs out of the driveway, across the street and parks in the empty lot?  He then says, "We're here!"  The whole family looks at him bewildered, but due to the high price of gas, they can't afford to go anywhere else.

I think that's how it goes.

Anyway, we have been trying for two weeks now to buy a toy hauler.  You know, one of those fancy camping trailers that will also haul your ATV's, motorcycles and other pricey toys we American's feel we can't live without.

I've shared before that Dear Man is building a T-bucket.  That is a model T that's been chopped, lowered, raked, and who knows what all, to become a dream of the teenaged boy of the fifties.  A hot rod.  The t-bucket isn't done yet, but it will be and when it is, Dear Man intends to load it up into the toy hauler and head off to all the hot rod shows, with us camping along the way.

In the mean time, we will go camping here and there, hither and yon, where ever the wind may blow us, and if the wallet has enough cash.

Two weeks we have waited to buy this camper and now we can't go camping this coming weekend.  We could have two weeks ago.  We could have last weekend.  We can't now.

So, while I sit here and type this, Girl 1 & 2 as well as Boy 1 & 2 are blissfully sleeping out in the toy hauler.  Dear Man and I will join them, when we are good and ready.

Ah, the smell, of the gravel!  The breeze blowing off the dog kennel!  It's home away from home.

Yes, I'm familiar with that commercial. LOL
Maybe you could ask your hubby to make the project he's working on "fold-able" for ease of storage or tie it on top of the camper but it sounds heavy, so I guess not. We wanted to visit the ocean again but not this summer. =o(
I hope your summer is filled with fun and loving memories no matter wher you are!

We just bought our very first camper this year, so I can relate to the kids wanting to sleep in it. Last night our kids got in trouble for playing in the camper -- the game was hide and go seek, the object must've been to find everything that was put away in the camper and throw it on themselves to make for a "better" hiding spot. Ooops! Have I mentioned our NEW camper rule?? Unless we are CAMPING, the kids aren't in there!!

Enjoy the camper! And tell the hubby to enjoy the hotrod! *Boys will be boys!!* (For my hubby it is 4 wheelers and 3 wheelers.)

Blessings! ~Beckie

THat is too good. I guess that's what I'm going to have to resort to. We have a popup, and are lucky to get to use it once a year. The older girls are always off and involved in something. I told them I was going to start leaving them behind and going anyway if they didn't watch out. : ) I would *love* to go more, and I would *love* have something a little larger and permanantly "popped".
I'm trying to catch up on my blog reading. Amazing how the summer has been more hectic than the "school year."
We have had an interesting day today. After desiring it for almost 2 years, and trying to attain it for a year, Marissa (age 9) received a picture of her birthmother today. She was very glad, and we are glad for her. (We've had a pic of Daniella's bm from the beginning.) I'm having a difficult afternoon, though. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel fear, necessarily. But, I feel down. You see, even though she is Guatemalan, we found out last year that her birthmother lives in Georgia. Anyway, it's just strange, and the feelings have popped up on occasion over the last year, so I know they will subside soon. I haven't forgotten that you asked about a link for any adoption stories. Actually, I had, but I remembered recently. : ) I will do that soon.

The politically incorrect ramblings of a sage rat den mother. As well as thoughts on adoption, special needs children, and My Lord and Savior.

About my Avatar: Tia Turtle is a character in a new book by Gena Suarez, "And Then Mama Said...It Takes Time to Learn to Read." Kevin Collier is the illustrator and he made me my special avatar, because yes, Tia Turtle is named after Me! (Okay, so I'm bragging. Leave me a correctional comment in love.)
