My children and I can have some pretty morbid discussions at times, and today's conversation gave me an idea for a blog entry.
The unit study approach is one of homeschooling's favorite ways to teach a topic and can cover every academic subject many with a hands on approach. Curriculums abound, and parents often find themselves side tracking to go into an area of interest with more depth and give their child a real feel for what they are covering.
There are some unit study ideas that are better left to just one or two areas of learning and should not be fully experienced. Not to mention they might be a bit hard to explain to the authorities after you showed photos of your children doing school at the family reunion.
I'll give you the following examples, feel free to comment with any others.
- The Donner Party
- Medieval torture devices
- Salem Witch Trials
Yes, even homeschooling has its limits.
Update: No these are not real unit study curriculums, at least not that I'm aware of. However it wouldn't surprise me if they were.
