Last night we were invited to atten the birthday party of a very special lady who had turned 100 years old! Family and friends shared their memories of this spry woman with us all.
This past summer the birthday girl fell outside and broke her hip. When she was finally found by the family and taken to the hospital, her daughter asked her how it was that she didn't have a sunburn anywhere. The reply was this, "I tried to roll so that I would brown evenly." Still sharp as a tack and quick witted!
Along with the excellent food and friendly converstaions, there was an impressive performanc by the Rhinestone Ropers. Two of my cousins were volunteers for the Bull Whip demonstration. I laughed so hard to see my younger cousin (9) squinch up his eyes, and cover his face with his hands! Not that I blamed him mind you! Dan used the tip of the whip to cut up an object held in my cousin's hand.
Each of the children came home with trick ropes, and my Aunt was given a DVD that teaches you how to do several of the rope tricks. Guess what's taking place at her house right now? Everyone's a cowboy!
I just might learn a trick or two myself and keep a rope handy on my hip. I'm sure it's just the thing I need to get the attention of an errant child. |
