• Jan. 1, 2007 - New Year Tidings

Posted in More About Me

2007 has snuck up on me and I'm sure I'm about to be pounced upon at any moment.  Just where does time go?

At this moment I should be telling you what my New Year Resolutions are, and I will I suppose, but I was pondering something and I just have to ask, "Why do New Year greetings and toasts have, may this year be better than last, in them?  Does anyone wish that the New Year would be worse than the last?"

I usually take the easy way out with resolutions and simply say that I hope to be a better person than I was the year before.  That encompasses quite a bit, and in some way I am  bound to have been better in something than I was previously.  I'll keep that resolution but here are a couple more that I feel I need to include:

  • Become a better roller skater.  We went roller skating with one of my cousins last week and my knees and ankles are weak!  I don't remember the last time I went rollerskating, but it's been 13 years since Neeto had been, she was only three at the time.  The children are begging Dear Man and I to go again and I must say that I would like the opportunity to improve my flailing technique.  All caught on tape by the way.
  • Learn to cook in a convection oven.  This was our Christmas present from my Mother and we are picking it up in a week!  It's not just a convection oven, it can be a normal oven too, and it has a glass cook top.  Oh the joy of not having to clean under those burners!
  • Above all I want to live my life for Christ.  That's the best way I know to better myself.

• Jan. 1, 2007 - Convection baking

We have a convection oven, too, and I appreciate that it can cook our food a little more speedily. It takes some experimentation, but generally you can cut off 25-30% of your cook time. So a casserole that would normally cook in 30 minutes can be done in 21-23 minutes.
If you like soft cookies, though, bake those with the conventional feature. Convection-cooked ones are crispy!
I hope you enjoy your new stove!

Ahh, rollerskating. A commendable resolution! I lived in rollerskates when I was a kid and teen. Then, I didn't go for umpteen years, until about 5 or 6 years ago. I skated, and did pretty good, but I was scared to death! I did actually fall once----while I was standing still! I was trying to show my daughter, who had never been on rollerskates, how to do something, someone came behind me, my skate got caught, and bam. I didn't even know who happened. I was just suddenly lying on my back. They tore that skating rink down, so I don't even know where one is anymore. That was was 40 min. away. The lost arts!

Great goals! Good luck on the roller skating. I have gone infrequently in my adult life. I do ok but I usually worry about falling and breaking my ankle like I did at age 12. Have a great new year!!

The politically incorrect ramblings of a sage rat den mother. As well as thoughts on adoption, special needs children, and My Lord and Savior.

About my Avatar: Tia Turtle is a character in a new book by Gena Suarez, "And Then Mama Said...It Takes Time to Learn to Read." Kevin Collier is the illustrator and he made me my special avatar, because yes, Tia Turtle is named after Me! (Okay, so I'm bragging. Leave me a correctional comment in love.)
