While trying to see if my site meter is working now that we have javascript once again, I typed into the search engine the words, "pooh sticks." I hoped the list this would bring up would show at least one of two entries I have made about playing Pooh Sticks and the types of bridges one could play Pooh Sticks from.
I didn't find my blog entries, at least not on the first page, but I did find out that there is a World Pooh Sticks Championship coming up!
The event is a fundraiser, but I couldn't help but wonder if Pooh Sticks might one day become an olympic event, what types of companies might want to sponsor a Pooh Stick athlete and if this was a sport that would require a rigourous training program?
Would the spectators of Pooh Stick races whip themselves into a wild frenzy and paint their bodies to match the colors of their favorite athlete? Would teens put up posters in their bedrooms depicting the winning stick? Would vehicles be graced with bumper stickers declaring their love for a now dead Pooh Stick racer who came to an early demise when bumped over the bridge by a fellow competitor?
Somehow I think all of that would not hold to the true spirit of Pooh Sticks. It's meant to be a relaxing game, among friends. While the players do want their stick to win, the competition is not fierce. Of course, there still is a danger one could be bumped over the bridge by a tiger with ADHD. |
