At one point in our lives we owned two cats, one dog, six goats, two birds, two guinea pigs, and two ferrets. Yes, all at the same time. We did have friends and family who thought that was a bit excessive. What I thought was excessive was the flies! No matter how clean we tried to keep things our house was full of nasty flies. So, when we moved we narrowed things down to two cats, two dogs and four goats. We eventually got rid of our goats as well.
Now if there's one animal in all this world Blue would love to have, it's a horse. Dear Man and I would love to be able to give her one. If it weren't for the fact that we feel feeding our children more important than feeding a horse, we could afford to buy one and keep it alive. Still, Blue is yearning to care for something else. I suppose it's like a mother wanting another baby.
Blue came to us asking if she could buy a bird. I told her it would be hard to saddle a bird. She of course did not find me amusing, no one in this house ever does. The result was that today we went bird shopping and she picked out a beautiful blue, male, parakeet she dubbed Fizzy.
Right now that parakeet is keeping his distance at the far side of his cage. The girls are certain he will die, to traumatized to make the transition from pet store institution to life as a prince of birds. That creature has all the bells and whistles it could ever hope for! We'll see how it goes.
While at the pet store Tiki examined the lizards and hermit crabs. He has decided he would like to have a hermit crab but seeing as we have never owned one before we thought it best to come home and learn something about them first. Research complete and it looks like he will be obtaining a hermit crab he would like to name Crusty.
Did you know you can paint hermit crab shells to look like baseballs or paint big smiley faces on them? We thought it would be funny to paint a shell like a trunk with little stickers of where it has traveled. Other than that I don't think owning a hermit crab will be very exciting. Tiki thinks it's wonderful.
I do hope our house won't be inundated with flies. |
Just watch out for ceiling fans. And don't ask my baby brother to birdsit. Disaster. Trust me.
Love,
Marsha
