• Jun. 27, 2007 - Camping, Future Job Prospects, and Sign Language

This is going to be a mish-mash of things, mainly because I am feeling very lazy at the moment but I know that I need to put something on here, even if it is ridiculously boring to you.  That's how life is sometimes.

So the reason I needed swim attire was because we were going camping and while on that camping trip we would be floating about in a canoe.  I had no desire to tip over and swim in my ever so lovely camping skirt.  (This thing is on it's last seam.)  What I wound up with was a pair of shorts and I wore a t-shirt for the top portion.  Not my swim gear of choice.  Some of you said you like to wear a two piece for the ease of a bathroom visit.  This would be easier but in the interest of being sure my body stays covered I'm willing to sacrifice the convenience.

Wearing a two piece to me is asking for trouble.  I have yet to swim in a t-shirt that didn't either bubble up and float near my eyes, or once out of the water show off my Michelin Tire form.  I may not be attractive dry but I don't see any reason to flaunt it while wet.

Others of you said you like to wear tankini's or a two piece bathing suit under your shorts and shirt.  I have to ask you why?  Why spend that kind of money on something only to cover it up with other clothing?  Then again, I'm not a fancy underwear kind of gal either, strictly white for me thank you.

As for the camping trip it was wonderful!  One of the best weekends we have had in probably several years.  I did get in the canoe and paddle about, and we did not tip over, saving myself from embarrassement.

I've mentioned before that my son Cheeko loves camping and he likes to pour over camping catalogs and help plan for the big weekends.  This is the first time we have ever stayed at a State Park camp and the camp host caught Cheeko's eye.  He was enamored with this man's position and once we were home he played camp host and declared he would like to be a camp host when he grows up.  If only it paid well.

You can also read about our camping trip at Neeto's blog, Blue's blog and Tiki's blog after the poor boy can finally finagle the computer away from someone.

Neeto has only one more year until she graduates.  This is amazing to me!  Where did the time go?  She has become very tired of being asked what she will do after she graduates.  She has no idea and finds it very irritating that really people only want to know which college she will be attending or if she will join the military or some other supposedly equally noble undertaking.  She has come up with a pretty good answer, you can read it HERE

This funny comes from Cheeko also.  He walked up to Neeto with his two hands together at the thumbs, index fingers, and pinkies. The two middle fingers on each hand were down.  He then told Neeto that this was sign language for, "Cool Dude," in Spanish.  Here I thought sign language was a universal language.

Looks like you hit on a HOT topic there (pun intended). So glad you all had a good time. One of my friends does the short/t-shirt thing too and finally found a t-shirt that worked really well - didn't stretch out too much, not too clingy, and thick enough not to be see through!

My search is still ongoing...

Glad you made it back safely and that you had a fun time with your familia!

I don't think your posts are boring at all. If I can blog about wallpaper, you can blog about camping!

Love,
Marsha

hee hee ... I was enjoying this. I really do wear tankinis as well. With a board short. It's attractive and modest because I wear a tankini whose top doesn't have any "tummy space" for viewing my belly. But, since I'm having trouble losing my fourth baby weight ... well, it might not fit this year! I probably look like a pop biscuit in it.

I love your daughter's answer! We went through the same thing. In fact, I just did a post about it back in May.
I had to buy a new swimsuit this year, too. Double ugh! It's a 2 piece with a skirt. I wore it last week when I took my little girls to the pool. While I'm thankful the skirt covers more areas while on land, while in pool, it floats up over my stomach and back.

About my Avatar: Tia Turtle is a character in a new book by Gena Suarez, "And Then Mama Said...It Takes Time to Learn to Read." Kevin Collier is the illustrator and he made me my special avatar, because yes, Tia Turtle is named after Me! (Okay, so I'm bragging. Leave me a correctional comment in love.)
