Seeing as I had to do the Seven Sevens, tonight I will take a break from my four part child ditty.
I saw an add by TOS for a temporary job. They wanted someone who could do marketing (not sales) and was comfortable talking to the media. They wanted a resume and a sample of writing. I would have liked to apply but I know nothing about marketing, and have never talked to the media. I'm sure the media is glad about that, I would talk their ears off!
As for the resume portion that was a big downer. I have no college education and my last job was 12 years ago as a jet engine mechanic in the Navy. I wasn't sure how I could translate that enough to give the impression I knew anything about marketing. Maybe if I wrote it in an obscure language.
I had plenty of writing samples, plus my blog speaks for itself! Either that or all the lovely people here on homeschoolblogger are just being polite.
PRMAMA has a great blog on how to make yourself an expert in order to market yourself. I read through it but still couldn't figure out how get past the "I have no idea what marketing is." Aside from my just sitting down and writing any old thing that comes to my head, I have no marketable skills. I'm a mediocre cook. I don't even like to cook, so some job as a chef or caterer is out. I like to be organized but I feel there are already plenty of books out there on how to do that. How else do you think I became organized. Wouldn't that be plagerism to put their ideas, that I use, in my book? The only tip I have in that area is get up off your bum! Somehow I don't think that sells.
To continue with my skills, I'm not a great mother, housekeeper, or wife. I really don't do anything all that well. It's not for trying mind you. Maybe I could sell mediocrity? What do you think? Is there anyone out there who wants a half clean house, dinner, or grocery list? I'm your man!!!
My aunt tells me that one of the good things about me is that once I decide something needs to be done, I get right in there and do it. No dilly dallying for this lady! Need to move? I'll be there and have you packed in no time. I don't guarntee you'll know what box anything is in or that it won't be broken when you get there, but by golly, you're moved! I just don't see any point in making an unpleasant job last longer than it has too.
It looks like it will be awhile before I will be earning a secure income. What I really need is my own column. Oh, wait, I guess that's kind of what this blog is! I just need to figure out a way to make it pay.
