• Jul. 26, 2009 - Good-bye to Familiar Places and Familiar Faces

Posted in Life on the Road
I don't normally blog on a Sunday from my personal blog, but I tried to do this last night and something wretched happened. So I gave up and went to bed! Let's try it again today.

The hardest part of the move is over. We've said good-bye to friends and family. We've gone past the point of where we've been before. From here on out it's new friends and faces.

I promised you some pictures, but I had to steal them from Eyebright because my card reader won't work.

Our motorhome on the road in Oregon

We made it into Utah where we visited the ATK rocket display.

We went on to visit the Golden Spike National Historic Site

Unfortunatley, we arrived a half hour after closing time so we didn't get to see the golden spike or go inside the building. We did get this picture of the monument to the event of the transcontinental railroad meeting up from east to west. Good enough for me, I'm not sure how much more excited I would have been to actually see a golden spike.

Now, let me give you some road tips. Don't ever buy gas in Sublett, ID if you can help it. It is VERY expensive! We wound up only buying a few gallons to get us to the next town with reasonable gas prices. While we were getting gas another motorhome pulled in, took one look at the gas prices and left.

Tip #2 - If you have a laptop, you should make sure the battery is fully charged before you try to live blog while driving down the road. Having only one available inverter, once I got that problem solved I then discovered that my wi-fi battery was not charged either. I couldn't charge both so live blogging was out.

We made it into Utah and I have to say that I'm disappointed with the landscape. It looks just like eastern Oregon. This far inland I expected some sort of changes. They say that Oregon has a little bit of the whole world in it, so I'll probably be disappointed every place we go! I hope not. I'll work on my attitude about that.

Right now I need to get moving and make our bed. We need to get on the road and move into Wyoming. Dear Man wants to be in Denver, CO by tonight. I'll blog when I can!

Don't ever get gas in Needles, CA, either! (You aren't going to KY the long way, are you?) :o) It's $1/gal lower on the AZ side of the bridge!

You have a big adventure ahead of you. Wishing you many blessings as this stretches your faith and character. I've been there. In fact, I'm still there...

Safe travels, Tia!

Trying to think of something clever to say but *yawn* all my cleverness has left the building.

What an adventure your family is on! We will be praying for your family as you travel our direction.
I went out west 19 years ago with my mom and sister, (I was pregnant with Breezy, so she went to. :) I remember Oregon was such a surprise to me. I didn't expect so many different types of landscapes in so short amount of time. Things will definitely look different as you travel east.
May the Lord bless you on your journey!

About the turtle: Tia Turtle is a character in a new book by Gena Suarez, "And Then Mama Said...It Takes Time to Learn to Read." Kevin Collier is the illustrator and he made me my special avatar, because yes, Tia Turtle is named after Me! (Okay, so I'm bragging. Leave me a correctional comment in love.)
