So, have bloggers slowed down posting on their blogs? According to my poll, 34 people said no,and 25 said yes. The biggest reason being not enough time.
I have read several blogger posts about finally having time to write, they have been so busy reading other blogs that by the time they're done reading, they've run out of time to post anything! Maybe a tip for them should be to post first and then read?
So, what if the reason you haven't posted as much is because you have nothing to say at all, which 5 people said for the poll? When I have nothing to say I read other blogs! I have discovered that sometimes my comment to a certain post becomes an essay. Why not turn it into a post for your own blog and then just link back to the blogger who gave you the inspiration for your thought? If anything, you could repost a link another blogger linked too. Like this one I read over on Taking the Challenge. You want a reason for keeping your children home? Why send them to a school where they don't even encourage studying?
It turns out that bloggers love comments! Surprise, surprise! So much so, that one blogger has not posted as much because she wasn't receiving any. Fellow long time bloggers, do your best to encourage new bloggers. Many of you do, according to the poll.
Here's what is so great about comments as said by other bloggers:
I really enjoy receiving comments because it shows me that what was read impacted someone enough that they would be willing to leave a piece of themselves behind before leaving my site.
To me a comment is like a little gift.
Knowing people are reading has helped me find the TIME to write!
Here are a few tips on getting people to comment on your blog. Some of these were shared by other bloggers on the poll:
1. Let people know you have a blog.
2. Comment on other bloggers posts. Most bloggers will go check out a new commentor and leave a comment in return.
3. Write posts that make people think, laugh, or even cry. 23 bloggers said that they leave a comment because the post touched them.
4. Post a question.
5. As noted above time is a factor for bloggers, several said that if a post is too long, they won't even read it all the way through.
6. Start with something catchy, either in your title or at least your first paragraph. 13 bloggers said that they read posts off the Last 100 entries page, where the first sentence or three is shown.
7. Post regularly. That doesn' t mean you have to post every day, but the more you do post, the more likely someone is to come back and read your blog again.
Even if people aren't leaving comments you can still see if people are at least stopping by your blog with a stat counter, just as this blogger said:
Checking my statcounter helps me to know that people are reading even when they aren't commenting.
So, any comments so far?
