I know I've talked about this before, and forgive me if I bore you.
One of the questions from my blogger poll asked if you would like to receive comments that didn't always agree with you. Most people said they did not.
I have to say that I do not enjoy confrontation in any way. I do however daydream about being able to have that quick and witty comeback to something idiotic said. Interestingly enough I am never given a chance to say all the great things I come up with. I think the Lord is trying to save me. Let's face it, quick comebacks rarely bring glory to God.
Still, the comments that don't agree with me are usually from people who didn't "get" what I was trying to say. Which means I wasn't clear enough. I think these comments help me to become a better writer.
So, if I want to have a quick come back that does bring glory to God, and if I want to make myself clear in what I am saying, then what exercises can I do to hone those skills?
1. Know my Bible. Which means I need to read it, and study it.
2. Write often. Each post brings comments and sometimes a comment that doesn't agree. I can then use that to figure out where I wasn't clear enough.
3. Learn about debate over at The Contenders. Debating in this forum does two things: a) Helps you to write clearly so as to be understood b) Will eventually teach you how to contend for your faith, i.e. bring Glory to God with a good comeback.
At least go check it out, I think you will be surprised at what you see over there. It is purposely family friendly, and educational. Everyone is welcome, parents and students, to participate.
