Life and a Little Learning

Homeschooling with a newborn baby in the house

How do people do this?

Much to my shame, my children have been watching too much Noggin and Nick Jr. They have been also doing a lot of books on tape, because I can't seem to get it together enough to actually read to them. :(

They do go to Kindergarten 2x per week, but I still should be doing stuff with them myself on their days home.

Yep... it is not an easy juggling act, but I promise it CAN be done!

Nov. 28, 2006 - Christmas Shopping

I hate shopping in stores at this time of year! Luckily for us mom's, we have KB Toys.com that is offering us a great deal this year. Shop at 60% off, if you sign up 5 people to shop under you and they spend $50, you can get a $250 gift certificate for KB Toys! There are no strings attached like those others sites. Thought I would share with fellow homeschooling mom's who could use a break from the chaos of the stores and holiday shoppers!
Best wishes!

I'm not sure just what to say that would encourage you - but, I'm going to try. I have found that sometimes what we think are so important, really aren't so important.
I mean, the teaching kids all the stuff we think they need to stay on grade level, is really a cultural/society thing, but it's not necessarily a God-ordained thing. I have struggled like you have and finally came to the conclusion that His yoke is light and if it feels heavy, then perhaps I am not really carrying His yoke, but my own that I have placed there.
Your babies are little but once, you can never go back and do this time in your life again. Enjoy them.
Here is a website that has really helped me. I hope you will look them up and see what they say.

I just realized that you might enjoy Five in a Row books. You have a story with craft ideas, cooking, math, etc. tied with the novels. You can go at your own pace, fast or slow. I will never forget that my children retained everything we studied in those units. I took it for granted how young they were, thinking they wouldn't remember much, but they still remember all the things they learned many years later (info. on Russia, United States, and just having fun together). Let me know if this helps.

About Me

This is a blog about my adventures in homeschooling my children. I have 3 girls ages 10 (public schooled), 5 and 4 years. I will be attempting to homeschool my middle girls for *at least* kindergarten. Oh, and I'm pregnant with my 4th child (a boy, Samuel) due in October. Life is guaranteed to be interesting.
