I’m gonna tell you about how the New Zealand election went, but first I’ll have to tell you about how the NZ parliament works! So in our parliament there is MPs (don’t ask me what that stands for, I don’t know and it probably just stands for something corny like Member of Parliament.) So anywho each MP are in a region and your electret vote decides what MP from the region that you live in you want to represent you in parliament. And then you have the party vote, it decides what party you want to get in to lead the country. The leader of each party will be the prime-mister of the country. (Prime-mister, kinda like the president) There are 120 seats in parliament but 60 reagins (6 are just for the Maori) so the other 60 seats get shared out to the party’s by how many votes they got. The MPs that there given to are called list MPs So it happened like this National got 44.93% of the vote. Labour got 33.99% of the vote. Greens got 6.72% of the vote. NZ First got 4.07% of the vote. ACT got 3.65% of the vote. Mäori got 2.39% of the vote. Progressive got 0.91% of the vote. United Future got 0.87% of the vote. (See these and the other party’s and there resalts here) So there is a 5% amount that a party has to get to, to get in parliament. Or if they can get a MP voted in by the electret votes. So NZ First didn’t get over 5% and didn’t get a MP voted in so NZ first didn’t get in. ACT got under 5% but they got an MP voted in so they got 4 list MPs too. Greens got over 5% so they got in with 9 list MPs Mäori got under 5% but they got 5 Electorate MPs (5 MPs voted in) so they got in with 5 MPs and no list MPs because... well they got just as much MPs as ACT yet less votes Progressive and United Future both got 1 Electorate MP so they got in but they have no list MPs because they didn’t get enough votes In NZ it was that whoever got the most votes got in, so it was just Labour or National (FFP) But now we have MMP (don’t ask, I dinno) and so the other party’s are the “king makers” Let’s say all the other party’s supported Labour, (they don’t but) so Labour got 43 seats and with the other ones helping it would be 64 and then Labour would get in, even though National would get more votes. This is what it was really like: _______________________National___________________________ _ACT_U ___________________Labour___________________Greens__P And I don’t know what party the Mäori party will support... but it won’t matter because even if the Maori party supports Labour, National will still get in! :D So now you know (unless you’ve fallen asleep) that National’s in with ACT as the “king maker” and so John Key of National is now the prime-mister. This was it! I was going to Australia! I There was a deep blue sky, if I showed you the colour blue you would think that it was too dark, and it would be hard to see, but its not! There were big fluffy clouds that seem to brighten up things, and (of course) the spring sunshine. On the land, well, you have green grassy hills that stay green all year round, (unless there is a drought) and lots and lots of trees dotted everywhere, and you get olive coloured native forests and the pine trees that are grown for wood. And in the distance you see the ever present mountains! Blue and snow-capped, then there is the sea... the sea how do you describe it? Well you can’t do it well enough! We went through Hastings, Napier, and Taupo etc. We saw postcard scenes of a huge variety. And if I told you about it all you would probably be still here reading this post next week!! Oh and on the way we saw a cool-as town could Tirau and in that town all the shops have corrugated iron signs! Aneywho, after a few hours we came to Auckland. The motor way there is paid for by our fuel tax, (Grr Grrr X-( ) after driving a bit you find that you NEED a GPS. We got one from our uncle, and he had loaded on a Yoda voce! XD XD XD! Well we got to the airport and hopped out of the car (well we didn’t *hop* as such, we just say that) and we just had hand luggage so we didn't have to check it in! Then after going through heaps of queues we got on the plane. Now you’ll want to know what the plane was like, but I won’t tell you! Jk jk! The plane was small for international only about 150 seats or so... and It wasn’t that good! You didn’t have your own TV, and there weren’t any others! But if you wanted to see something to pass the time you had to pay for a TV! And if you wanted food you had to pay for it to! Air New Zealand is far better! But it wasn’t that bad, the air-host said corny jokes. And when a kid was crying they offered to show him round, they said to him; “Shell we go on the slide?” Hehe the slide he was talking about was the slide that pops out the door if the plane crashes, (we were in the air then). Dad said “He’ll need a big bungy cord!” When we had a not-so-good landing, we found out that this was the pilots first time flying a full passenger plane! Then when we stopped we found that in this airport we could go out the back of the plane too! So we were one of the first people out. (We were at the back) so we were first in the queues! Then we skipped the baggage claim because we had our entire luggage as hand-luggage. So we were first through customs and got out quick! Then after finding out which bus to take, we were on to the hotel! We got a bus to take us there. Well! Those bus drivers are good drivers! They go down streets that would be a mission for anyone else. The streets twist and turn so mu |
