Leaving Nothing Undone

As a family we have been reading through the Bible this year and there was something in last night's reading that caught my eye:

"Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses."  Joshua 11:15

These words that I bolded are what caught my eye...."he left nothing undone."  This has been my heart's cry for the past several months.  As my children get older (my oldest just turned 13) I have been crying out to the Lord for Him to show me what to teach, what to say, what to do...for I want to be able to say that I have "left nothing undone" of all that the Lord has commanded me to do.

Last night in our small group Bible study, we talked about the Great Commission and what that means for each of us.  We talked of obedience to "go" and share the Gospel...where ever the Lord leads us to.  I shared how hard it is sometimes for me because I realize the responsibility I have to disciple my own children...and because of that I find it hard to get beyond that to others.  I shared how it can be very tempting to minister and witness to "others" and then neglect our own children.  While I believe that as mothers our priority should be our husband, our children, and our home...I shared last night that ministering to others can still play a part as the Lord leads each family.

Let me explain.  I really feel it all boils down to obedience.  The Lord knows our needs and our childrens' needs and we have to trust Him to lead us.  We just have to be willing to be obedient to ALL that He is commanding us to do.  One of the joys of homeschooling is being able to spend a large amount of time with our children.  As the Lord brings people into our sphere of influence to minister/witness to, why not bring our children alongside of us and let them be a part of it too!  This is so exciting to me!  This is what discipleship is all about!

In closing, through this little phrase in this verse, this is what the Lord has challenged me with:
  • I need to just DO what He places on my heart each day to do.
  • I can't get overwhelmed thinking of tomorrow..."tomorrow will take care of itself" as Scripture says.
  • I need to trust Him, believing that He knows best what needs to be done each day.
Father, Thank you for giving me a glimpse of You and Your plan for my life...my life as a wife, a mother, a disciple of Yours.  It is only through Your strength that I can "DO" anything at all.  Help me today...just today...to DO what you have called me to do...to love my husband...to love my children...to teach and train my children in the ways of the Lord...to keep my home...and then to reach out to others as you lead me.  Help me to listen to You and You alone...not to the voices of this world that so easily distract.  For You are the One who brings LIFE!  Live Your Life through me, Father...today!
