My Own Cookbook!

Posted in Kitchen Tips
Over the past couple weeks I have been having fun putting together my very own cookbook!  I started a notebook a couple years ago and have it crammed full of recipes I got from the internet, recipes given to me by friends or family, etc.  But there was no order to it and it was hard to find my recipes.  So...I decided to embark on a huge project...organizing all my recipes into a notebook with dividers.  Another reason I am doing this is so that my sister can have a copy.  She recently moved into her first home and is in need to some "tried and tested' recipes.  So I told her I would give her all my favorite recipes.  I am finding I had more than I thought!  My notebook is getting kind of thick.

Here is how I am doing this:  Every recipe has its own page (some are more than one page).  All recipes are slipped into sheet protectors and placed under dividers in my 3-ring binder.  My categories are Breakfast, Lunches & Dinners, Breads, Desserts, Salads, Homemade Mixes, Homemade Cleaners, Canning & Freezing, and Miscellaneous.  I am also including in this "cookbook" information on ingredient substitutions (healthy alternatives to make recipes healthier).  I want this cookbook to be a gold mine of information that will make it easier to prepare healthy meals for my family.

I have typed up all my recipes in Microsoft Word and saved them under categories in my Recipes folder under my Home Management Binder folder on my computer.  It is a great way to organize my recipes and will make an easy way for me to print out another copy later for my sister.  I also plan on making copies for my children later to take with them when they begin a family of their own.

It is so nice to have all my favorite recipes in one place.  It also makes meal planning easy.  I can turn to my Lunches & Dinners section and choose meals for the week.

Why not put one together for your family?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - I'm doing the same thing

I have a 3-ring notebook that I keep all my favorite recipes in and when I find good ones on the internet I print them and put them in it. I have the clear sheet protectors too because while I'm cooking I'm always spilling and splattering. I just don't have all of my pages with protectors on them yet. But, I rate my recipes when I cook them and leave notes for my children to find (someday after I'm gone so they will know I was thinking of them) and tell them whether they would like the recipe or not. I even write the date that I cooked it. I guess I'm silly but I wanted to leave them something really personal of mine that they could laugh at someday.
