Language Lessons Books by Queen Homeschool

Posted in Book Reviews
I have had a couple ask about the language arts books I am using with my 8 year old and 14 year old this year, so I wanted to give some details on them for you.

Queen Homeschool sells a series of language arts books called Language Lessons.  They have books for preschoolers on up to mid-high school age children.  Done in the style of Charlotte Mason, these language arts books include copywork, picture studies, dictation, grammar, punctuation skills, narration, etc.  Each book contains 180 short lessons, one for each day of the year.

My two children have really enjoyed these this year.  My 8 year old has especially enjoyed the short lessons.  It has been a good gentle introduction to basic grammar and punctuation for him.

Here is the link to their website where you can take a look at this series.  They have samples too of each of the books!

Moodys Book Series by Sarah Maxwell

Posted in Book Reviews

The kids and I just recently finished this set of three wonderful books by Sarah Maxwell!  I can't recommend them enough!  The kids always begged for "one more chapter" every morning when we read.  We have enjoyed reading a chapter from some sort of character building book each day after breakfast for quite a while now.  When I saw this series, I knew I wanted to give it a try.  I ordered the first book and the kids enjoyed it so much I ordered the other two.  Sarah Maxwell is planning a fourth in the series as well, Spring With the Moodys, that is still being written.

Here is a description of these books from their website:

These delightful, fiction children's books are about a Christian homeschool family, the Moodys. You will not find bad examples that your children might inadvertently end up imitating-but rather a godly family working together and serving the Lord Jesus! Your children could even surprise you with the positive things they begin doing in YOUR own family . . . Watch and see!

The Moody Family Series celebrates the adventures of everyday life in a Christian family. Each book includes black and white illustrations.

The Gift of Family Writing
by Jill Novak

Instantly Downloadable eBook!

I recently purchased this ebook from Jill and it is absolutely WONDERFUL! I can't recommend it highly enough! Deep in my heart I was wanting a way to preserve memories...memories with my children, with my husband, family traditions, etc...but never had a clear idea of how to do it. Well....this is IT! I just bought composition books for each person in my family and can't wait to get started! ~ Sheri

The Gift of Family Writing Will Teach you how to…

  • Equip ALL your children, regardless of their learning styles, to become confident writers

  • Enable children of all ages – preschool through high school – to capture their life stories as they happen

  • Encourage even the most reluctant writers to utilize their oral storytelling skills as the basis for their writing

  • Inspire children who hate to write

  • Develop the practical techniques that “real” authors use as they write from what they know

  • Strengthen family relationships through the written word

  • Communicate vision and a hope in Christ to each of your children

  • Express gratitude for loved ones through tribute writing

  • Record your own childhood stories

  • Preserve your spiritual legacy for future generations

If you’re looking for a way to make writing a more natural part of your everyday life, you’ll love this book…
and your children will too!

Home Organization Help!

Posted in Book Reviews

Over the past week, the Lord has really been working on my heart in the area of self-discipline and organization. The Lord used the following newsletter I received in my email this past week to get a hold of my heart:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This link will take you to the Maxwell's website. All I can say about Teri's article is OUCH! The June Mom's corner hit home with me BIG TIME! Self-discipline is something that I have struggled with for many years. The Lord used this article to open my eyes to my own sin and has spurred me on to do something about it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, I have been doing something about it! I have been working on putting together my own Home Management Binder!  It has been SUCH a blessing!  I am beginning to feel organized...and not just on paper, but in real life...the actual DOING of it all!  I know the Lord is working in my heart to change me and mold me into the wife and mother He wants me to be.  I just wanted to let you know of this wonderful resource that may help you in this area of your life as well!

Here is the information on this wonderful ebook:

The Home Management Binder: The Housewife's Best Friend

The ebook has 152 pages, and has step-by-step instructions on how to build a Home Management Binder, and make it work for you each day. Through the power of proper, Godly organization, one can have plenty of time each day to:

* exercise
* cook and eat delicious healthy meals
* keep the house clean and "guest ready", while maintaining a fun, peaceful environment
* have hobby or project time(s)
* learn the "trick" to maintaining organization all the time

This ebook will hold your hand, and take you step-by-step, in the creation of your Home Management Binder, and how to implement it to your everyday life. For those who may feel overwhelmed, this ebook has a sample binder that can be printed out, and used. It also contains printouts of charts that can be used as binder inserts.

The properly organized Christian woman is a very happy and fulfilled one. She beams with joy, and her smile is bright. She is a living ministry to others; just by the way she lives her life. She is looked up to, and is a wonderful example for young ladies to learn from.

She has learned that by humbling herself, and living in accord to God’s will, her life is blessed abundantly with a true joy that is not fleeting. Are you (or a friend) ready to become that joyful, organized Christian woman?

Book Review
Homeschooling the High Schooler
From Transcripts to Graduation
by Paul and Gena Suarez

I was given the privilege to review the latest ebook put together by Paul and Gena Suarez, creators of The Old Schoolhouse magazine!  What a wealth of information this ebook holds!  Some of the topics included are: using real life to homeschool through high school, how to finish high school in half the time, dual enrollment, higher level math, language arts, and science, preparing transcripts, exploring apprenticeships, and MUCH more!  If you are a homeschooling family approaching the high school years with much fear and trembling…this ebook will provide encouragement, practical advice, and reviews of helpful resources to make the high school years the best years yet!

I don't think this ebook has actually been released yet, but I will post as soon as it does!  You won't want to miss out on this one!

In Christ,
Sheri
