Reflections of a Catholic Homeschool Mom

Aug. 28, 2007 - Where has the time gone!!

I am so ashamed of myself!! I have just realized that I have not posted in over a year!!! Where has the time gone???

Well- here is a rundown of the last year's activities.

My son who just graduated played football for the first time in his senior year at a local Christian school- we had a great time going to his games!

My husband and I were married in the Catholic church Oct. 27, 2006. We eloped 28 years ago and finally had a church wedding. My girls were my bridesmaids and my son gave me away. We had a wonderful reception too. It was such a beautiful holy time!!

We had a wonderful holiday season!

My youngest daughter got engaged in January! Wedding is November 17, 2007!!

My oldest daughter got a new boyfriend  who I believe is "the one".

My son had two wonderful homeschool graduations- a statewide homeschool graduation and a graduation with our Catholic support group. He is now working and will be saving to go to a community college or trade school.

I started working full time mostly for the insurance. But my schedule is very flexible and I can get off any day I want.

My husband and I went on a trip to St. Augustine. We had a great time.

That brings us pretty much up to date- I can't believe how fast time has gone by!!!

I will try and get better at this blog stuff!!

Jul. 11, 2006 - Nice Day

Today was a very nice day. I like nice days. I went to get our food from my food co-op and then delivered some to 2 friends. I have been trying to get the best food I can possibly find. ie: right from a farmer if possible. It isn't cheap. It all started with making my own bread then milling my own wheat (another 2 co-ops for that!) and I decided hey, if I am going to spend this time making my own bread, then I should really care about the rest of my food. So, I make my own salad dressings (sooo much better), the good version of Toll House Chocolate Chip cookies and have played around with making my own tortillas. I have the best recipe for pancakes and waffles along with a pancake recipe that uses apple juice. The eggs we have been getting are beautiful- deep orange yoke. More later...

Anyway, after I delivered my food I decided to take my Michaels coupon and go for some Scrapbooking supplies. Well, that is so much fun!! I have been TVOing (is that right?) the Scrapbook show on DIY. I love all the good ideas.

Then we got hit by a doozy of a rainstorm (Florida- rains almost every day around 3-5 pm). But it was still a nice day!

Jul. 10, 2006 - Happy...

Well, I was happy to see that I had one comment on my first blog. I really don't know what I am doing. I am having a hard time making my weblog personalized and I have no idea how to change things on it like some of the wonderful weblogs I have visited.

I don't want to be just a "lurker" so be patient with me. So far what I have done in order to figure out who to visit is to type something I am interested in like scrapbooking or whatever in the search field and see what pops up. I am not sure how to add "friends", but I guess the best way to have friends is to be one!!!!!!

I know for myself I can't get on the computer until I have done what really needs to be done so that my house isn't a mess around me. I could spend all day on it and that isn't good. My son is old enough that I don't have to "do school" with him, but there is always a lot to do- as I know you all know.

Jul. 8, 2006 - First Blog

This is my first blog. Let's see how it goes! I have been homeschooling for 12 years. This will be my last year. My son graduates next spring. It has been a journey!!! My youngest daughter graduated 3 years ago after homeschooling for 9 years. My oldest only homeschooled for one year (unfortunately) and just graduated from FSU. I didn't begin homeschooling for academic reasons, but for moral and religious reasons. I feel like I did the right thing for my children, but I don't know if it was received well by them. Sometimes I feel like they go out of their way to not be like other homeschoolers. My daughter has thanked me for homeschooling now that she is out of school. I guess only Eternity will be able to tell.

I am pretty much a stay at home mom just working a part-time job a few days a week. I bake my own bread and am really interested in good wholesome food. My husband, son and I recently converted to the Catholic Faith and we are so in love with the Catholic Church. It is such a completion to our Protestant roots.

I look forward to gleaning some inspiration from reading others' blogs.
