I enjoy reading what other people use for
curriculum as it gives me an idea of where I am in teaching my kids and
also great ideas for what to check out for either adding to, or
replacing, what we currently use. So, if you're like me, here's what we
use for our bible devotions and curriculum.
Bible is done first thing in the morning to give all of us a great
foundation to build on. Plus I want my kids to know that Jesus comes
first, before anything.
We start the day with a devotion with the whole family. I will
generally pray the night before for a Scripture that will help our
family deal with some issue or help us build character. (Today was
Romans 6: 5-7)
Sometimes we will also use Josh McDowell's "Family Devotions" or a
little booklet called Daily Bread. It all depends on where the Lord
leads us. We spend time in prayer and I am starting to incorporate some
hymns and contemporary worship songs.
After this we go into a 'bible class'.
Kaitlynn is read to with using a children's first bible and we go over her Cubbies handbook.
Matthew is using and Old Testament study called 'God's Promises' a part
of the Explorer series as well as reading through his Sparks book.
Kimberly uses the Rod & Staff Bible New Testament Study and we do
book studies on specific books that we read together. Right now we're
reading "Savior Next Door" by Max Lucado.
I feel very comfortable with these curriculums and feel that they provide adequate Bible study for the kids.
Of course, Kaitlynn and Matthew both participate in our Awana program
and Kimberly is very active in the Junior High youth group and as a
leader with our children's church program.
That's what we do. It isn't perfect, but like I said, I'm pretty
comfortable with it right now. As we continue to grow in our faith, I'm
sure this will change over time.
As long as my kids are growing in their relationship with Jesus, and
are continually transforming and renewing their minds, that's all I
ever ask for.
