I think watching a documentary on the Roman
Empire or a show about building huge Megastructures is just about the
coolest thing to do. If possible, I would tune my TV to these two
stations (simultaneously), break the remote (because we can't change
the channel any other way you know), get a case of Mountain Dew beside
my recliner, and bask in all that is good about TV.
Unfortunately, with a house of a four, seven, and thirteen year old
that will never happen! Why can't my kids like the History Channel and
the Discovery Channel like I do?
I am forced to a shallow existence of Looney Tunes, Dragon Tales,
Spongebob, and Drake and Josh every night. Aaaaaahhhhhh! (Actually if
truth be told... I like Dragon Tales, ssshh don't tell Kaitlynn)
Just when I think that I have a few minutes of Modern Marvels.... it's gone like a flash.
We really limit the amount of TV the kids watch and only allow them a
set period of time each day to watch their favorite show. I just wish
it was my favorite!
I think they actually wait until I turn on a ball game or a Discovery
Channel exclusive and, like magic, appear out of nowhere to say they're
ready for their TV time. My hopes... dashed again.
At least I can savor the time until bedtime. Then it's all Mine! Ah Ha ha ha ha!
Oh no, that's not right either. Then my wife says it's her time to
watch some crime show or court tv program.... oh, the inhumanity of it
all!
Actually, our TV watching has gotten a lot better. It was an adjustment
as before we got really serious about staying home and schooling the
kids TV was a great way to keep the kids controlled to a small level of
chaos. Now, we have set limits on the time and the shows allowed.
Except for when the kids wake up intentionally before me so they can
get downstairs and sneak a half hour of cartoon before their day!
I still wish they'd like the History Channel and see the enjoyment of
watching a marathon of back to back shows on Napoleon. Someday maybe.
At least I got to watch five innings of a preseason baseball game today! Joy of joys!

I have the same taste you have in TV. (I have to throw in some HGTV too though.) Everyone else has similar taste to the rest of your family. At least the dog will watch whatever I want. (As long as I scrath behind his ears!) Great post.

Wow, I guess I'm pretty fortunate that my 2 oldest enjoy watching History and Discovery. My oldest also likes FOX News, C-SPAN, and "all those liberal media outlets like MSNBCBABS (but just for entertainment)" <--- he came in here and typed all that stuff in quotes, not me. Now it's just the youngest ones who watch the garbage, but we're trying to cut back. The thing is, you have to brainwash them when they're young =D

I love the History and Discovery channels, too. And I don't get to watch them, either. LOL Sometimes on Wednesday nights when my husband has class, I'll tell the kids to go away, 'cause the television is mine for an hour or so. That's the only way I get to watch anything. :o)
