Feb. 12, 2007 - "Jesus is probably eating in Heaven right now."
It has been a while since I have updated. Between homeschooling, co-op, gym and swim, laundry, dishes, meals, shopping, bills, bathing (myself and everyone else), cleaning and whatever else I have to do that day... I'm sure you can understand my delay. When I do have a chance to sit down here, one of my favorite things to share are some of the conversations between my children. For example:
Andrew "I bet Jesus is eating in Heaven right now."
Mom "Why do you think so?"
Andrew "Because he didn't eat while he was on Earth."
Mom "I think Jesus ate while he was here Honey."
Andrew (without missing a beat) "Oh yeah! He had that last supper."
Caitlyn and Caroline are getting better reading and writing their numbers every day! Andrew is doing great reading the calendar.

A Letter From The County School Board!
I received my first letter from the county school board...Fear shot through me... All I could imagine was my having to go before the school board to defend myself as a homeschooling mother. Thankfully it was no more than a little letter asking if I wanted to apply for educational assistance. I do have to say the fear is helpful to me though. It keeps me on my toes for sure! I can say pretty confidently that I have all of my ducks in a row if I were asked to show that the kids are learning at an appropriate level. They certainly get lots of outside interaction with other children too, which seems to be a big concern for several outsiders.

Does anyone know where Allison is???

Oct. 2, 2006 - A Conversation Between Five-Year-Olds...
While cleaning the kitchen yesterday, Caitlyn and Caroline sat at the counter talking. I overheard this:
Caroline "Is Mama Gebo an Angel?"
Without missing a beat, Caitlyn replied "Not yet."
(Mama Gebo is 90+ years old.)

Sep. 30, 2006 - Smashed Windshield

While turning around in a parking lot the other day we noticed a car for sale. The car was $450.00 with a smashed front windshield. David (my husband) said, "Hey look at that windshield guys!" Caitlyn spoke up right away and said, "Oh wow, that wasn't made right!"

Sep. 14, 2006 - Mesopotamia, Nomads and Nouns...
I didn't do all that well in school myself. I never had a teacher that really liked me, not many friends either. I was a pretty quiet kid. I didn't understand why it was important for me to try to learn anything...
Today I learned about Mesopotamia, Nomads, The Fertile Crescent and lots more. I actually understand what a proper noun and a common noun are now. It is a lot of fun learning with Andrew. Since he has to take it slow to master a concept or idea, I have time to learn myself.
Caitlyn and Caroline are fun too, but they are still trying to master cutting a straight or curvy line, phonics, writing and numbers. Allison, who just turned two, is learning a little bit too. Just the other day she wanted to color with her sisters so I put her in her highchair with her piece of paper and crayon. She wasn't satisfied with that; she wanted Mommy to color with her... I wrote out a 'B' and said 'Ba'. A minute later, I asked her what that was and she immediately said 'ba'. I thought it was just a fluke, but a few hours later, I did the same and got the same response. The next day and the next afternoon, the same response! I guess it's not too early to start on phonics with Allison either...

Sep. 12, 2006 - If we were all this bright...
Caitlyn is five-years-old and very sweet. While watching Curious George on PBS before school the other day she said "Mom, look I can turn up the TV without even getting up or using the remote! ... Watch -
(yawn)" Caitlyn was very proud of herself!

Other than some self discovery, school is going well. I am not looking ahead any farther than each day, that's tough enough already. We just got a playset and will be setting it up this week - hopefully by next week the kids can go outside for a nice recess a couple of times throughout the day.

Aug. 31, 2006 - Our First Day
Our first day of homeschooling... We had a great day learning together. We started off with 'The Story of Ping'. We learned that the Yangze River is 4,000 miles long and that it would take us 10 trips to Grandma and Grandpa's to travel that far. We also learned that hiding from your mistakes isn't worth it. Caitlyn and Caroline drew a picture about something from the story - Caroline's was amazing - she drew Ping (the duck) on the water with the blue sky and the sun. I was amazed to see her draw the reflection of the sun on the water! Caitlyn drew a cute picture of Ping on the wise-eyed boat.
We also accomplished our Health, Math, Reading and Spelling (Andrew only). I learned already that we need to keep it fun - I'll have to allow for some recess time - a break here or there. Within the next week we will add in History and Language for Andrew.
Well, it's time to get started for today!
