I've been meaning to blog for quite some time, but I've always wanted to plan out what to say, get off to a good start, etc, etc. Meanwhile, the best of intentions have left me with a blank blog.
Tonight, I've decided to forget about my grand plans for getting it all perfect from the start. I'll jump in where I am, fill in the background later, and maybe someday come up with a title.
For the next two weeks, my two big kids are visiting their grandparents. My goal is to get the majority of my planning for next school year done during this "vacation." I'll be marking my progress along the way in this blog as sort of an accountability for myself. Perhaps one of my ideas will encourage someone else.
I'm usually bad about setting goals and even worse about keeping up with them. This is a short-term project so maybe it'll be a first success for me. Here's my general plan for my planning time during the next few days/weeks.
Daily goals:
- One week's worth of lesson plans -- I'm combing two Sonlight cores to teach my big kids together. This plan will have our history readers and activities (with pages copied as needed). It'll also have our read-aloud plan on it. The individual schedules for language arts, math, science, etc, will be added in later.
- One week's worth of dinner menus, including a shopping list
- One small "catch-up" project completed around the house -- stuff like cleaning off my computer desk, packing away used school materials, misc paperwork. All the stuff that I put off until I have more time.
- A half-hour spent reading ahead in the materials for next year so that I'll be ahead of Addison in her independent reading assignments and so that I can determine which read-alouds are appropriate for both kids.
Stay posted to see if I'm able to keep up. For three mornings each week, Lauren will be spending time with her respite care nurse and I'll have several hours to focus. I'm preparing for the time when we won't have nursing care anymore. |
