• May. 18, 2009 - What We've Been Doing in Pictures
I haven't been poting much here lately because I've become "addicted" to Facebook . It seems to be a great way to stay in touch with family and friends near and far. But I thought I was past due time to post pictures of our new kitchen. And I also thought what better way to tell what we've been doing these last few months.
The old kitchen

The new kitchen

While remodeling the kitchen, we decided to redo the outgoing plumbing pipes as well. Got tired of having them snaked out every 18 months or so... in between working, the boys decided it was a fun place to play with their knights and castle

A quick afternoon with my cousin and his family. Their daughter is coming to college in the area. We took them to Jack Stack for BBQ.

Daddy and Princess attended a Daddy/Daughter dance

Homeschool skating

Face painting at the Mushroom Festival in Richmond, MO

Wildlife right out the window of our Burb, also recently view or caught, Salamanders, toads, and a black snake up by the foundation of the house --hope he's still in the creek where Shane put him yesterday afternoon :)

Christian Youth Theater Showcase for Princess, Bubba and Little Bit. A little blurry, but you get the idea. They boys were pirates and they even did a little sword fight-- very cool!

Princess's class did a bit from Annie and Oliver

Not one, but 2 homeschool conferences for me! We all attended the MPE conference in the KC area and then I got to go by MYSELF to the SHEM conference in Springfield. Some of the highlights was spending time with old friends and making new ones, meeting Stacy McDonald in person, and hearing her and Mr. McDonald speak at the conference, finding a company that I thought might have gone out of business with the new regulations (www.corpofrediscovery.com) Very cool place... check it out! And having dinner at Lamberts! Great country cookin!

Building a new chicken coop with Bubba (Just me and him). Nope that's not the new chicken LOL

But here they are

Having fun with an wire spool, Little Bit had his own style

That's some of what we've been doing lately. I hope to get back to blogging more regularly now that the kitchen is officially done! |

• May. 5, 2009 - Sundays Sermon Notes... What a GREAT Message!
|
I really wish that everyone I know could have heard Sunday's message. The Pastor at the church we've been visiting for the last couple months had quad by-pass a few weeks ago. He had been working on this sermon before then. While he was in Florida for the Ligoneer Ministries conference. This was his first Sunday back in the pulpit. I'm so thankful God gave this man more time on this earth. He is a powerful preacher and an amazing man.
I have copied my notes but still don't think they do the sermon complete justice. I pray that the essence of the sermon is evident. The Pastor said so much more that is not in my notes that was soooooo good. I need to see if they tape and if I can get a copy and listen to it again and again.
"Christ's Greatest Trophy"
John 1:29-34
He first talked John's declaration "Behold, the Lamb of God" And how we must stop and look to see that Christ is our Sacrifice. That we must submit to what He will do, and that he is our Sin Offering, that comes by the power of the Holy Spirit. We must also tell others that he is the Son of God.
We see this take place in action at the cross (this is where it started to get REALLY good).
(Luke 23:39-43)
*The thief saw the Lamb
*He embraced him as Lord
*He obtained eternal life (today, you shall be with me in paradise).
A. Even when Christ was hanging on the cross in pain and suffering, he had the power and willingness to save sinners.
B. There are those that are saved at the very hour of death and there are those that are not.
Of the 2 thieves on the cross, only one was saved.
1. Repentance and faith are the gifts of God, and cannot be done in man's power. We cannot repent on our time, only in God's time.
2. No one has the right to take liberties with God's mercy and presume that they will be able to repent when they like.
3. Pray now for conviction of your soul for one day your prayers will come too late.
He then talked about Esau selling his birthright, he was rejected and didn't have a chance to repent of that act and reclaim his birthright.
C. The Holy Spirit gives abundant proof of His work in the theif's heart. He always leads souls to heaven in the same manner.
1. The thief had very strong faith.
a. He believed Christ had the power to save with all sufficiency
b. He believed Christ was innocent and undeserving.
c. He believed Christ would provide a kingdom for him.
2. Notice this man saw nothing of what the disciples saw, still he believed.
3. Notice the kind of man he was.
a. This man was a wicked man
b. He was a dying man
c. He had the marks of a believing man:
1. He had a right sense of Christ (he feared God)
2. He had a right sense of sin (knew that Christ could forgive sins)
3. He had the right sense of compassion (showed it to the other thief)
4. He had the evidence of grace (concerned for others)
5. He exhibited true repentance
D. Believers when they die are with the Lord.
E. Eternity is only ONE BREATH away for every man. ( he then spoke of his bypass experience)
Eternity is accomplished in an instant, and is something which is near. There can be no salvation after death.
Conclusion:
1.To the humble and contrite sinner, see what the penitent thief did and do likewise.
2. To the proud and presumptious of this world, TAKE WARNING. and see how the inpenitent thief died and turn from your sinful ways
3. To the professing believer in Christ, Look to the penitent thief's religion as a measure to prove your own. See that you know something of true repentance and saving faith of real humility and ferverent love.
4. To those that mourn over a departed believer, your beloved departed ones are in the best of hands (He used the example of the old Allstate commercial and speculated that they used hands because of the strength implied).
"No ones hand is stronger than the Fathers hand!" (I LOVED this quote).
They cannot be better off. Feel sad that they're gone, but don't selfishly mourn for their return. REJOICE rather that they are forever free from what trouble they may have had and have entered into complete and final rest.
5. To the aged servant of Christ,
Look and see from these verses how near you are to home. Your salvation is nearer than when you firt believed. Awaken and revel with th is thought that in a few more days of labor and sorrow, and the King of kings will send for you, and in a moment your warfare shall be at an end and all shall be peace at last.
Both men were wicked.
One repented.
One reviled Christ.
One received eternal life
One received eternal ****ation |

• May. 1, 2009 - The Last Few Weeks in Bullets
* We have a "new to us" kitchen (look for pics in near future)
* Had a WONDERFUL time a both homeschool conferences (MPE-- KC metro, and SHEM, Springfield, MO)
* Heard Jim Weiss, James and Stacy McDonald and Michael Farris among others at the homeschool conferences...
* Re-aquainted with old friends and made new ones too.
* Is sick of hearing about the swine flu... esp. when good old fashioned influenza kills more people each year than swine flu has so far.
* Is tired of Mr. Obama's "change" wonder's where all the people are that "aprrove of him, because I don't know anybody...even those that voted for him.
* Has been visiting a wonderful church. The church we were visiting when we found out about Precious-- they prayed so faithfully for us. It should have been our clue that it should have been our church home 2 years ago.
* Doing lots of hands on school--love it
* building a new chicken house with Bubba. If it'll ever stop raining, we might get it finished
* Tired of the rain
* visited the Steamboat Arabia museum (fascinating), City Market, and 2 Asain markets (one complete with a huge "fresh" fish counter... yep, they even had squid... yucky. You could get your fish six ways...
* Children are enjoying acting classes with CYT
* Enjoying Scrabble on Facebook with friends and family
* Does not like it when dogs eat brand new shoes or when complete strangers ask heath questions about your child without knowing what they're talking about.
* Is ready to be done with recordkeeping for the year...
That's what we've been doing...
If you're still reading me (after this hiatus) would you leave a quick comment... you don't even have to sign in, just put your username in the blank. Thanks! |

• Apr. 22, 2009 - MPE and SHEM Conferences... back to back and I get to go to both!
By the grace of God I get to attend the SHEM conference this weekend! I have wanted to go since hearing that James and Stacy McDonald were going to be the keynote speakers, but with the MPE conference the weekend before, I thought it was impossible for me to do both. But then I found a source for free lodging -- that makes it do-able.
Anybody gonna be in Springfield, MO this weekend??????? Let me know... I'd love to meet you. |

• Apr. 2, 2009 - A Fallacy
Recent conversations here have included the topic of race. Recently Voddie Baucham and Doug Phillips answered a question about inter"racial" marriage.
From personal experience, I agree, those that don't like our answers resort to name calling...
For some reason, the permalink on Dougs blog is not working properly, but here is the entry in full.
For nearly two decades I have had the opportunity to teach on the issue of creation, the family and the Bible. Throughout this time I have had the privilege of preaching on the subject of “race” and marriage before thousands. I have always addressed the question the same way. This weekend at the Father and Daughter Retreat the question was asked again. Here is how Dr. Voddie Baucham and I answered the question:
QUESTIONER: “...How does race fall into you and your daughter’s choice in a man?”
DOUG: “I’ll give you my answer. The Bible teaches that there is only one race. And that is the human race. So, consequently because there is only one race (and that’s the human race), we’re all of one blood.” Therefore, all men and women are qualified for marriage—not on the basis of their melanin count—but on the basis of other things all-together.”
“So from my perspective, anti-miscegenation laws are unbiblical and are wrongful. Prejudices which prohibit inter-marriage based on so called, skin color are deviant, ungodly, and unscriptural. That’s my perspective. Would anybody else like to add to that?”
VODDIE: “In What He Must Be if He Wants to Marry My Daughter, notice a couple of things; On the cover of that book you cannot tell the ethnicity of the man. That’s intentional. The last chapter of the book-the conclusion—is addressing this question directly right form the perspective that Doug just echoed. I really felt like that was an important issue. So its addressed on the cover and its addressed in the conclusion of the book, What He Must Be if He Wants to Marry My Daughter.
There are two types of people who hate this answer.
The first are bigots.
Bigots come in all different stripes. Some are “white” and some are “black.” Some are red, or yellow, or brown. (Perhaps some are polka-dot—I don’t know.) Some claim to be Christian, and some don’t. But the ones who claim to be Christians usually have an errant perspective on the Book of Genesis—a perspective which is often linked to a clear theological compromise with evolutionary thinking. The ones who don’t claim to be Christian tend to have pagan views of culture and ethnicity. Alternatively, they may simply harbor ill-will in their heart to those who are different from them.
The second group who hate answers like the one that Voddie and I gave include people with an agenda to smear Christians and Christian ministries. Not content to address real ideas and real positions, they resort to perverse fact-twisting, bizarre analogical reasoning, outrageous straw men—-anything to appeal to those silly and undiscerning individuals who can be easily taken captive by the fear-mongering tactics of the kook-brigade. This point becomes clear should you find yourself surfing the web and stumble across “Christianswholovebabiesareracists.com,” or “womenwhoareatleasttentimessmarterthanourweaklinghusbands.com, or even “holyfeministswiththespiritualgiftoflying.com.
When all else fails—-call your enemy a racist.
Like the first group, the second group includes individuals of different stripes, but the common denominator here is hatred for Christians and Christian ministries, not concern for people with a different melanin count.
The Bible has the answer to bigots, Internet hate-mongers and those who genuinely inquire about the truth of His Word. While God does classify men along the lines of “kindreds and tongues and nations,” there is no “white race,” nor “black race.” God has “made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.” (Acts 17:26). Praise the Lord!

• Mar. 18, 2009 - No Hard Feelings at All
Posted By homeskoolmom
Cici dear,
I have absolutely no hard feelings what-so-ever. You have been every bit respectful and I honestly do appreciate that.
We can agree to disagree. No problem... and I'd be happy to share any information about adopting with you that I can. Not only am I a 4 time adoptive mom, but my in-laws have been foster parents for several years and I also have a BSW, and have studied attachment issues in depth too. I LOVE to see children in forever families. It warms my heart. I'd adopt all of them if I could, but unfortunately, we don't have the room or the money for that :)
BTW, I'm with you about the bantering, been there, done that, and I don't have the stomach for it... that's why I blog.
You're welcome to come visit me anytime :)

• Mar. 18, 2009 - Don't Be Sad for Me...
Oviously I'm really striking a nerve on an entry I wrote-- what 2 months ago based on a speech given by a man with brown skin... Dr. Martin Luther King was the one that spoke of having his children be recognized for their character and not the color of your skin... I was only quoting him and giving my opinion on it. And for the record, no, I don't think a man that wants to kill babies (among other things) has much character.
Thank you Cici for being respectful and for signing your name. I truly appreciate that.
First of all, let me make myself perfectly clear. I view people as people. Human, the way God intended, not by the color of their skin. I have a disdain for forms that ask race. We are one race-- human, not black, (or AA) or caucasian, or Indian (or NA), etc.... These things describe our physical traits, but not our "race". Many times, I will write "human" in the slot for "other" when I am filling out these ridiculous forms.
In our home, we do not focus on skin color (except to say how pretty our children's skin is). Or to joke about not being able to find one of our chocolate children after dark unless they're wearing a bright colored shirt :)
In our home, we focus to the best of our ability, on bringing up our children to honor the Lord God Almighty.
When God gave us our children, we didn't care what color skin they had, we wanted a family. And quite honestly black/biracial children are the "unwanted" children of society. Don't believe me, check out www.adoptuskids.org and see all the little chocolate people that are in the foster care system waiting for their forever family, in our country as opposed to white children.
As for people being born "that way" homosexual... sorry... I know of too many that have been freed from that sad life to believe it. Others that are so miserable that they can hardly stand themselves. In fact, I've met very few happy "gay people" (and in the past worked in a field that is filled with those living the lifestyle). I find it hard to believe that those living the homosexual lifestyle want to be that way any more than an alcoholic wants to be an alcoholic, (yes, I know there are those that would say it's a disease... not a sin, I disagree). Or any more than a man addicted to pornography wants to be, or drugs, etc. etc. etc. No, these people don't want to be "that way" but a sinful habit, any sinful habit, is hard to break. IMO, being homosexual and acting on it, is no less of a sin than a heterosexual in relationships outside of marriage and acting on it. I believe if God had intended men to be with men and women with women, he would have provided that option in Genesis, but He did not. In fact, is very clear about his opinion in His Word about homosexuals, just as he is about other sins.
Abortion... no comment except... I have 4 babies that would/could have been aborted, had it not been for the option given the birthmothers of adoption.
As far as your thoughts on my beliefs about blacks-- sorry you know very little about that. I do not claim to be an expert in welfare, I KNOW white people get it too... good grief-- stop being so sensitive people! I was raised in Knoxville, TN and most of the projects there are filled with whites.
YES! There are lazy white people collecting government checks for sitting on their rear ends too. I believe I have said this before but I'll say it again now too.
Happy now?
What I saw in the inner cities I was in, was people that did not know how to get out of the hood. They wanted to, but generational sin is VERY hard to break. And when you get almost as much or more money for doing nothing, why do you want to get out and work? In a way I don't blame them. I just wish it was different. My opinion is that welfare brings about very little good. It makes people lazy and gives opportunities for people to lead sinful lives.
And for the record, there is NO WAY any person can know everything about my feelings about these topics from a few blog entries. These are just mostly my random thoughts I have had about these subjects. To presume to know everything I think from what I write here is ... well I don't know what, but it can't be done.
I am a person that believes in absolute truth, not moral relativism, which is the mantra of today... and I don't apologize for it.

• Mar. 13, 2009 - Men Will Hate You
I thought today's grace gems devotional was very timely...especially this section. The Word also states that we will be hated because we are followers of Christ....
"They kept shouting--Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" Luke 23:21
The Word of Truth declares that "the carnal mind is enmity against God" (Romans 8:7). Men do not believe it--in fact most of them pretend the very opposite. Nevertheless, at Calvary--they gave proof of their hatred of God.
Not only was Christ unwelcome here--but men hated Him--and that "without a cause" (John 15:25). He gave them every reason to admire and adore Him--but they had an inveterate detestation of Him!
Multitudes go through the form of paying homage to God--but it is a "god" of their own imagination. They hate the true and living God, and were it possible--they would rid the universe of His existence! This is clear from their treatment of Christ, for He was none other than "God manifest in flesh" (1 Timothy 3:16). They hated and hounded Him to death--and nothing short of His cruel death by crucifixion would appease them!

• Mar. 11, 2009 - Thanks Anonymous
Anonymous has decided to comment again... and says "he" won't be back. Oh darn! This has been fun, but tiring to me. I so adore being called a liar and a racist and treated nasty by those who refuse to be acknowledged.
At this point, comments will be closed on this particular post, and if you sir change your mind and do leave any more mean spirited comments on other posts, they will be deleted. (since I don't know what to call this commenter, I chose "he" this time).
Dear sir, I beg to differ-- I have not called you ANY name, (unless you call "dearie" a "name") nor have I "ranted and raved." As I open myself up to comments from those that disagree when I post, you sir, also open yourself up to my thoughts on your thoughts...
You sir, appear intolerant, you have come to a blog I write and accused me of all sorts of nastiness and have admitted yourself that you know "nothing" about me. You have called me names because I don't agree with mainstream media... nor do I apparently agree with you (and I assume you are an Obama supporter because only someone with as much anger as you appear to have about this issue could be as vehemous as you have towards me).
I disputed your view and called your "comment" stupid... that does not mean you are stupid, just your comment. You, on the other hand, have called me a liar and a racist... at the very least, and you sir have "ranted and raved" on my blog.
Here is the answer to your question:
Mr. Obama doesn't have to place the race card, the media has played it well enough for him!
For the record, I have no problem having a black man for president-- I think it would be WONDERFUL if we could come together and stop focusing on skin color as a dividing point in this country. (Thank you Mr. Darwin). As I said before, (and what the original post was all about) I would have a problem with the man if his skin color was purple, skin color doesn't matter to me-- CHARACTER DOES! (Maybe it will surprise you, but I did not agree with everything that Mr. Bush did while in office either).
You sir, most certainly know way more about me than I know about you... if you read any of my blog at all, you will learn a lot about me... as for you, I don't even know whether to call you Mr. or Mrs. --that does give you an advantage. :)
For the record. I do not hate Mr. Obama. How can I "hate" someone I don't know? I, dear anonymous, do not even hate you as you seem to hate me. In the original post, I was merely pointing out that I don't believe that even Martin Luther King would agree with Mr. Obama. Mr. King seemed to desired character qualities above color of skin.
I will say that I DO hate what Mr. Obama stands for... abortion, homosexuality, socialism, big government. etc. etc. etc. I pray for him on a regular basis, as I am commanded to do in Scripture. For the record, I do not hate the woman who aborts her child, or the homosexual. But I most certainly do not have to like, or agree with these actions.
One more thing, not every person that reads my blog agrees with me. If you read the original blog post thoroughly, you will see the first comment was left by someone who did not agree with me, but was polite in their disagreement... unlike you have been...
And sir, according to you, I must be racist because I didn't marry a black man, I just gave birth to 4 black children as my own through adoption... sir, please forgive me, but your ignorance is showing.
My blog my thoughts...don't like it? Oh well. |
