Hand-Picking

I have been hand-picking curriculum today to see what I could see.  I have been picking most of my curriculum from Evan-Moor Educational Publishers.  I was able to see inside the workbooks and was able to see exactly what I was going to get from cover to cover.  I loved the "take it to your seat" centers. The science is great and math was great.  I liked all the language arts.  They are reproducible so I can use em over as many times as I need.  Its very "schoolie" and I have read that homeschooling isn't about school at home... but I am not really sure what that means....  I will have my children guide me.  I will watch my children and be sure they enjoy what they are doing...  Lots of activities and lots of creativity.  My mind is going going going with the things we can do and how much fun we can have!  My bible study is my focus, of course.  I need to be sure that is 100% above all else!

Rule #1

Rule #1 After God has asked you to homeschool.

When choosing homeschool curriculum... Don't.  LOL Don't decide. Just let it all sink in.  Let God lead you.  Let God decide.  Just let it go!  I have been all over and If I had the money I would have the curriculum by now and, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have liked what I chose.  I am just letting God decide right now.  I am starting very slow so that I can let things slowly sink in.  I am getting ideas from all over the place.  I am still sure about HOW.  I like this teaching approach the best.  But how could I be sure unless I really looked everywhere and at all I could.  I feel 99% about it because I have taken some time to look at a bunch of other things too.   I am so new at this it is scary.  But I would never want to decide on somthing just cus I felt I needed to make a decision right away in order to be able to homeschool.  Its more then books... Its more like a state of mind.  I am getting my mind in the right place lol.  Am I way off base here?  Am I loseing it?  LOL

I also found an awesome link on a forum I was in yesterday.  http://www.homeschooloasis.com/  This is a great resource to help keep things in perspective.

Getting Started

Well, let me be the first to say there is a wealth of information out there.  Homeschoolers are the most generous and creative people.  They share so much information and are so quick to help someone.  Wow!  I have been going from one website to another searching for "the best" curriculum that would fit Ethan and Joshua perfectly.  All of the information out there is overwhelming to say the least.  However, I am so glad to see so much rather then have the opposite problem.  I want a curriculum that is bible based completely in the word of God throughout every lesson.  Bringing everything back to the glory of God.

I am most impressed with the HOW teaching approach.  Heart of Wisdom is beautifully done, studying God's Word and God's World.  However, I am concerned that I will buy this 1st year deluxe bla bla bla and end up not having a clue how to use it or worse yet, being so overwhelmed I sit in front of this mound of stuff and cry my eyes out!

God is working in me in so many ways.  I rely on him to show me what is best.  The idea of growing with my children in Christ is so powerful I can barely stand not to get started tomorrow!  The idea of being a part of my children's life in such a profound way is both daunting and exciting.  Never having done this before and knowing it is so important leaves me feeling a bit anxious.  I have to continually bring the focus back to God and what God has asked me to do in my children's lives.  I will be deligently praying for wisdom as I am GETTING STARTED!
