Mar. 10, 2006 - Fuzzy Bumblebee
Mar. 1, 2006 - 1st March- Evening
Feeling a bit blah. I'm fasting for my blood test tomorrow but earlier I had a cup of coffee which always makes me feel wierd, especially on an empty stomach. And I can't even eat something now to make me feel better! :( So I'm very tired, but I'll write a bit:
I got two really good books from a shop in Campbeltown called The Old Bookshelf. The books are called Every Woman's book of Health and Beauty and the Wonder Book of Science . I haven't looked at the Science book yet, but the health and beauty one is brilliant!! I think it's from the late 1930's, and one of it's tips is to put peroxide, lemon juice and face cream on a fading sun tan to speed up that irritating "dirty face" stage!!!! I'm sure I will post many other pieces of "wisdom" as I come across them in the book. The diet plans are amazing though. in those days people seemed to eat: a large meal in the morning (bacon etc, as well as 5-6 slices of toast!), a small lunch, and then a large meal in the evening OR : a large brekkie, large lunch and small dinner. I think that not eating breakfast is where many dieters go wrong nowadays. I think tomorrow I'll post some sample breakfast menus from the book.
More tomorrow, after I've had a good meal and my blood test is over!!

Feb. 28, 2006 - 28th February- Snow and School
Well, not much to report today. Except IT'S SNOWING!!!! Really heavy!!
Here's what schoolwork I've done:
Bible- Rod & Staff Grade 5 -Chapter 4 Review
20th Century History- www.classes2you.com -Finished South America and did Quiz- I got an A! 98% I think.
Science- Robert Boyle- Read two chapters of a biography on Robert "Robyn" Boyle- very interesting. He was the son of a very rich Earl, who sent him to live with a peasant family at six months old because he wanted Robert to appreciate his riches when he returned to his family home at the age of 12 or 13. It worked, by the way!!
Typing- Typed up one set of questions (about Charles I) for my little bro.
Ancient Literature- Read some of the textbook downloaded from The Puritan's Curriculum I'm reading about Gilgamesh (Gilmagesh?)
I might do some math later. Maybe. I usually love math, but at the minute I'm getting so bored with it. There's no challenge!!
By the way, it's PANCAKE DAY!! Only we never had any pancakes for lunch because it was too cold so we had pea and mint soup instead. Yummy.

Feb. 27, 2006 - 27th February
Wow, I've had a very busy day today.. but haven't been doing much schooling
This morning I did a little bit of my Saxon Advanced Math and then went to the ENT doctor up at the hospital. He couldn't really see anything wrong with my throat so he prescribed some acid-reflux medicine to see if that helps. I'm to take it for a month. I was pretty fed up when we got home because I really hoped that there wold be something specific wrong and then I would be able to play my pipes again. Bummer.
When I woke up this morning I saw that I had a big infection on my foot!! I have really bad circulation so I hadnt noticed before then!! So when we'd finished at the ENT clinic we made an appointment to go and see a normal doctor. We nipped home and then I went out again. I went in the docs on my own for the first time, because my Mum had to stay at home cos the washing machine was due to come!! Anyway it all went boringly at the docs. I'm having a fasting blood test later in the week to test for diabetes. Don't ask.
Had a peanut butter toastie for lunch then did some school.
Will go into more detail later, bye

Feb. 24, 2006 - Friday 24th February- Morning
Good Morning!
I did extra math and bible yesterday which means that today all I have to do is my history!! I just finished it (took me almost 2 hours today!) so I *think* I'm FREEEEE!! Not that I don't like school. Ahem.
This afternoon we're taking the washing machine to the skip. The new one is coming on Monday- yay we won't have to wash by hand anymore!! Also, I think we're doing a little bit of food shopping at the Co-op
Tomorrow we're hoping to go for a walk on the West Highland Way, if the weather holds. If not, we'll go to the Sealife Centre. I hope it does rain because I love it at the Sealife Centre, and we havn't been for ages!
This morning I did some baking for my dad to bring to my brother in Perth tomorrow. I made an iced lemon cake and some lovely crispy ginger biscuits! Maybe at some point I'll post the recipes(?)
I found this cool geography website- the CIA World Factbook. It has basic facts for each country- in quite a bit of detail- for instance religion, population and agriculture statistics. It's a handy thing to have .
Bye

Feb. 23, 2006 - A bit about me
I am fifteen years old and I live in Argyll, Scotland. I have two brothers, one who is 13 and one who is 18 (he is now at University). I have been homeschooled since I was 11.
We use a range of different materials to homeschool. At the minute I am studying Math (Saxon Advanced Math), 20th Century History (www.classes2you.com), Typing (I usually just type up the review questions from The Story of the World for my little brother to use), Bible (Kingfisher Postal Bible School and also Rod & Staff grade 5). Until last week I was also using Apologia's Human Biology Course, but I found it a bit boring, so I'm taking a break!!
I don't think that I'm doing enough school, so Mum is writing me a World History course using all sorts of books etc. I'm starting it as soon as I've finished my www.classes2you.com course. It will include science, history, geography and literature. I can't wait actually!!
Hmm...what else...I would be in 10th Grade....I play the bagpipes (but not at the minute because I've got something wrong with my throat)... I love baking (I'm vegan), knitting and sewing.... I live in a small village. That's it!! |
