Apr. 25, 2008 - Making Money
I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of three beautiful and spunky daughters. How it blesses me to hear one of them say "Mommy, is this on sale?" or "Mommy, do you have a coupon for this?" Yes! They are learning that some things are not worth buying if the price is not right. Either that, or they just know Mommy won't buy it unless it's on sale and is accompanied by a coupon.
I do wish I could say everything I buy is on sale and/or has a coupon to go along with it, but I have not been that fortunate. I do, however, strive to not pay full price when I do not have to.
Have you ever thought about (choose one or more):
a. going back to work
b. taking a side job
c. finding a trade
d. selling a kidney
e. fill in your means of money making
I am not talking about making money because you just want more stuff. I am talking about making more money to pay the bills, put food on the table, and keep shoes on your kids!
Sometimes it's not about making money but finding money! No, don't go looking through your husband's pants pockets and under the couch cushions (although those can be resourceful ideas). If you have no way to add income to your family, then you must find that income somewhere in your budget. I know this sounds obvious to some. Okay, we'll just cut back. What if you have done all you can to save on power bills and long distance calls and extracurricular activities, but you still find things too tight at the end of the month?
Enter the knight in shining armor...the coupon. Don't laugh too hard at me! Start a simple part-time, at-home "job" of clipping coupons and perusing the sale ads and you'll be on your way to making some breathing room in your budget. Stay tuned as I begin to share with you in upcoming posts about "Taming the Coupon Tiger." Yes, it's a play on the paper tiger book. But since I am just little old me not using that title to gain fame or fortune, I don't think I am violating anyone's rights! I did this as a workshop at a ladies' day at my church and had so much fun sharing with others.
