God's Word

So much for trying to post every other week.  To make it up to my readers, I am going to put up a couple of posts.  Part of the reason I haven't gotten around to posting here is that I have been busy with my responsibilities at church.  One of those responsibilities is sending out an email with Pulpit Committee updates and upcoming events.  I also include a little devotional thought at the beginning of each email.  I thought maybe you all would like to read those as well.

The second set of eight verses in Psalm 119 read"9 How can a young man keep his way pure?  By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 12 Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! 13 With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. 14 In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word"

These verses served as a reminder to me this week.  It is easy in the busyness of church and life to forget the simple things.  Enjoyment and study of God's Word is so basic to our well-being.  It keeps us pure.  It keeps us on the right path.  It fill our minds and hearts with good things so that when we speak and act from the overflow of our hearts it is a beautiful thing rather than an ugly one.  It gives us peace and purpose by focusing our priorities on God.  It gives us a correct view of ourselves and of God.  Let me encourage you not to neglect God's Word, and let His Word encourage you to keep walking the walk.
