This week we rowed Gramma's Walk. It is a lovely story about a little boy and his Gramma, who is in a wheelchair. They use their imagination to walk along the seashore. The kids really enjoyed this story and the art projects that we did along with it. One day we experimented with watercolors and today we made made beautiful stones.
I found the idea in Family Fun and it is a definite keeper - fun & cheap(a great way to use up those broken crayons you have around the house). We took a "nature walk" in the backyard to find some smooth stones. I had hoped to make it to the beach this week to get some beach rocks like in the story but between some residual sicknesses and BW's Greek class, it didn't happen. We are hoping for next week and I think this is definitely a craft we will do again and again. Anyway, we heated up the rocks in the oven and melted old crayons over the rocks. They came out beautifully and the kids had a blast(though they had to keep being reminded not to actually TOUCH the rocks as they were still hot). I do recommend making sure that the stones/rocks are really smooth and that they are a little on the larger size if you have people with little hands.
We've also been learning about the senses and cracked up when I found that the Barney movie (Barney's Sense-Sational Day) I borrowed from the library seemed to teach them better than I did. It's the learning that's important, not the source--right????

• Jul. 28, 2006 - hello!
I plan on posting my notes for each chapter, so if I find out I'll definitely put it on my blog.
We're using FIAR too! We had stopped and began Sonlight K, but I'm going to go back to it for a little while before we finish up SL.
Blessings,
~Becky
