And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God...

• Dec. 9, 2006 - Holiday Edition of Get to Know Your Friends

A friend e-mailed this to me and I had fun answering it so I thought I would post my answers here and offer for anyone else to post their answers in the comments or on their blog if they wanted(voluntary tag).  Make sure you post your link in my comments though so I can be sure to read it!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?  Wrap.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored
 4. Do you hang mistletoe? no - where do you get it?
5. When do you put your decorations up?  Whenever we have a free weekend - the sooner the better.  This year it will be pretty late since we're moving next Saturday.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Ham with pineapple
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:  So many!  Christmas Eve church and then lasagne at our dear friends house.  We would sing the 12 days of Christmas and each person would have a day. There was a Santa hat and when it was your day, you had to put the hat on and sing.  Then there was getting up at around 4am with my brother.  Rule was we could only open stockings until parents got up, but we did plenty of "looking".  When mom & dad finally "woke"(in reality were dragged up) mom would bring out baby Jesus and put him in the manger and we would sing Joy to the World.  Then we would open presents.  We would hear sirens because Santa Claus came on a fire truck and the firefighters would give us bags of candy & peanuts.  Then mom would make pancakes/waffles and we would play with our toys.  Naps were taken at some point.  Once I was older, I got to help mom wrap after my siblings went to bed.  It was a great bonding time with mom and we would often get very silly as we reached the wee hours of the morning.  A few times, the kids got up right after we had just finished.
 8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?  Pretty late, but don't really remember exact moment.  Just finally thought about the logic of it.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?  Only one and it's always pajamas to wear that night.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Colored lights, ornaments are from years past. Even back from our childhood.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?  Like to visit for a short time, but wouldn't want to live in it. It would be fun to vacation for 2 days or so and build a snowman, have a snowball fight but overall I really don't like to be cold - What can I say I'm a California girl!
12. Can you ice skate?  Yes, but nothing fancy.  Just skate around in the big loop.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Cabbage patch kid named Lorena Ann in the year when they were really hard to get.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?  Remembering the birth of Christ and what His coming has meant for my life
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?  Cheesecake
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?  Won't happen this year, but my favorite is that we celebrate Christmas Eve with "church" family by hosting a potluck after church.  We especially try to invite people who don't have family in town and it has always been a different group of families.  Depending on the size, we've done games and pinatas too.  Christmas morning is just Brent & I and the kids and then we spend the afternoon with family.
17. What tops your tree? Angel - When I was in college I bought my parents a new angel for the top of their tree and the company accidentally sent me two(before I became a Christian) so I kept it and it has always been at the top of our tree.  It's a huge angel and her dress lights up.  A few years it was almost as big as the tree.
18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?  Giving, but I do like opening!
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Religious - Angels we have heard on High, Secular - Jingle Bell rock
