• Aug. 27, 2008 - Potty Training Update

I wrote a while back about our experiences with potty training our youngest.   Thought I would give you all an update.  Praise God that we are staying dry all day!  We have BM's under control and he's even wiping himself!  He is sleeping in regular underwear and is staying dry all night long!  So....forgive me if I'm not in a huge hurry to "fix" this little glitch in his use of the potty!

Shhh!  Don't tell, but he doesn't like to stand when he goes to the bathroom.  He prefers to undress from the waist down and watch the stream like this:

...which is fine when we're at home, but in a situation when we're in public or when we're out, well, like in Sunday School, this means that he needs to take off his shoes, his socks(though I've been keeping him in sandals to make this easier), his pants, his underwear in order to use the facilities.  Then he needs to be dressed again and disinfected.  So, I know that at some point I'll need to break this little quirk of his, but how can you say no to a face like this?

Any tips/advice would be welcome:)

Blessings!

-J

Oh, bless your heart!! I have three boys. They all started out sitting. It took my husband working with them, showing them how to aim, to get them to stop. Do you have a toll that he can stand on? My middle son thought that was cool.

Ah, toilet times make some of the best photos out there! Kids are so funny!!! Boys do take longer than girls... my boys were 4. Well, be patient... I don't know any high schooler still wearing diapers.

I update our camp situation. It's finally over!

We started our ds when he was about 2 and I think he's finally mastering things (not all) and he just turned 4. Ugh! How did you ever get your little guy to wipe? Please leave me a note on that!!! Mine will still have accidents and will try to hide it, but he's always found out because he makes such a mess when he tries to put it all from his pants to the toilet. Yep...disinfectant wipes sit right next to the toilet! Drives me nuts!!!

I would agree that your dh has to take the next steps with the standing thing. Although...sitting is much less messy as long as you train him to "tuck it in" before going.
