Summer-time in Georgia means hot, but it also means bugs..... and where there's bugs, there's itching.
My most favorite herb of all time has to be plantain... to me it is the perfect herb.... It works well for stings, bug bites, cuts, rashes, yeast, bleeding and wounds in general. I am never far from a salve with plantain.
So... I'm thinking that I want to put some plantain in my GOOT, or is it GOOT in my Plantain?
BUT... what is GOOT?
GOOT is an ointment that stands for Garlic oil ointment and it is one of my favorite things to use in summer. It is basically garlic that is pulverized and applied to directly to the skin and is absorbed quickly. I have used GOOT for bug bites, stings, athlete's foot (not me, but Mr. B), poison ivy, and fevers.
You can apply it locally for a sting or bite, or rub it onto the soles of the feet for systemic issues.
Well.... I decided to combine some plantain into the mix and see what would happen. I thought about using the plantain raw, as the garlic is used in this formula, but then decided to infuse the oil with plantain instead. I'll probably do a batch with raw plantain next month.
How does one make GOOT, or Green GOOT, as I call my creation?
**********************************************
GOOT
3 Tablespoons of coconut oil warmed
3 Tablespoons of olive oil
3 Tablespoons of minced garlic cloves.
Add all to the blender and process on high until liquified (I usually do a few minutes)
Strain thru a fine strainer or cheesecloth.
Keep in the refridgerator, well covered.
It is supposed to be good for up to 3 weeks, but I can say that I have kept it longer with good results. Use externally....
Modification for GREEN GOOT...
I took the olive oil and infused it with plantain prior to combining it with the other ingredients. To do this I rigged a double boiler and took fresh plantain and cut it into little pieces and covered it with the oil. I let it process uncovered for about 3 hours until the herbs are crisp looking. Strain out the herbs and let the oil cool.
I am hoping that this will add extra anti-itching to the plan GOOT as I am an avid scratcher....

I too have had great results storing quite a bit longer than the 3 weeks.
Question for ya... I've never ever strained mine. The blender liquefies it so well, and it solidifies fast enough for me that it doesn't separate, so I've never been able to figure out what the benefit of straining would be. Everyone else who I know who uses goot though strains it. I'm likely missing out on something key here. Why strain? (Not intended sarcastically--I'm really wondering what the benefit is.)
