Ok- so call me crazy, but today I get this really awesome catalog in the mail (which I have never received before) MindWare a catalog magazine of brainy toys for kids of all ages. I sat down and was looking through some of it and seen some things that caught my interest.

My daughter's 1st grade class, while in public school, raised butterflies from caterpillars. This catalog magazine offers a lot of things like that. However, it got me to thinking that a lot of this stuff is expensive, there has to be other companies that sell just the caterpillars, tadpoles, etc without the huge expensive tags and facy tiny habitats. I will be honest, I really would like to do something like this with my kids for one of our school projects, but I can't use a tiny habitat! I am such an animal love that I strongly believe in the best habitats for what ever your raising.

We finally found a great butterfly habitat kit, it will come with ten live caterpillars and all supplies need to watch them grow into butterflies. We ordered it through Carolina, which you can find in my link list. We are using some print-outs from Enchanted Learning.com to prepare ourselves for this study. Today we are reading all about caterpillars and butterflies, as this unit study goes on we will have quizzes and more on the Painted Lady Butterflies. Wish us all luck with this great project!
