25 Random Facts About Me

Posted in et cetera

Miiko Gibson tagged me with "25 Random Things About Me" on Facebook.  I thought it would be fun to post it here, too, in case some homeschoolbloggers would like to do it :).

The rule of this tag: "Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you (that would be me).  If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you."

I guess I will skip all the obvious things about me (hopefully, it's obvious that I love the Lord, that I live for Him, and that I desire to live by the Book/the Bible :)).

1. My parents are Chinese; I was born and raised in Thailand.

2. I came to the U.S. on September 14, 1989 (to study for my master's degree).

3. I am extremely blessed to be married to Eric L., a man after God's own heart. One of the most Godly, most gentlemanly, most gifted, and funniest men on earth!

4. I am also blessed to have 3 delightful kids who love the Lord and desire to please Him (sometimes fail...but always trying).  No greater joy! (3 John 4)

5. I take the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) seriously and hope all other Christians do, too.

6. I am passionate about reaching the unreached with the Gospel (Romans 15:20) and about saving the unborn.

7. I desire to memorize more and more of God's Word. Psalm 119:11

8. I wish I could adopt all the orphans in the world.

9. I knew/studied 5 languages (French, Japanese, Chinese, English, and Thai). "Knew" is the key word :). Now I only speak the last two.

10. My Thai first name "Urailak" means golden appearance.

11. My nickname is "A" and my brother's nickname is "B." Wish my parents had all the way to "Z" :)!

12. I don't wear make-up.

13. I am allergic to hazelnuts. My allergic reaction includes rashes and swelling. Once my swelling got so bad that my husband had to saw (using a little saw) a gold ring off my finger. Thankfully, he left my finger intact...mission accomplished :).

14. I don't mind going to the dentist (except the bill). I like sitting in a comfy, reclining chair doing nothing except opening my mouth wide. I spend that time to pray and relax.

15. I love spicy food and I can have spicy food at any meal, including breakfast. To me, rice with curry is better than a bowl of cereal for sure :)!

16. I love to sing...especially singing praises to the Lord.

17. I marvel at God's creation and enjoy taking pictures. My photo blog is http://wondersbeyondwords.blogspot.com/ .

18. I smile and laugh A LOT! (often to the point of "too much" ) Seriously, this is no laughing matter! I have to consciously force myself to leave giggles out of my speech (especially on the phone).

19. I also cry easily (touching songs and movies usually make me cry).

20. I've always enjoyed reading aloud to my kids (no matter how old they get).

21. In Thailand, I was a contestant in a TV game show similar to Wipeout.  I got through to the last challenge and lost.

22. In Thailand, I appeared in two different music videos.

23. I first met my husband on my campus in Thailand.  He went on a short-term mission trip with Campus Crusade for Christ during the summer of 1988 and 1989.

24. I used to translate American movies (videos) from English into Thai for a cable TV company in Thailand.

25. I love seafood, especially crab, lobsters, shrimp, and salmon cheeks.

If you are reading this, please consider yourself tagged (well, only if you would like to do it).  Please let me know if you decide to do this tag.  Thanks!

Sunday, January 18, 2009 - Thank You Urailak "A" - My favorite Daughter-In-Law

You can't imagine how I felt reading your comments regarding my son Eric, your husband. He couldn't have found a better wife than you nor a better mom for his children. You brought tears to my eyes. You blessed my heart and I am so grateful that Eric is a man of God, the best kind to be. I remember clearly taking a ride back up the hill behind our former home and thought I had my other son I said Oh God I want a son after your own Heart. Thought it was strange because I had another son, but it was a real ache and desire, yet knowing the facts then it looked like an impossibility, really impossible, but God moved and Eric was brought into this world for God. I thought of Hannah at the time. I drove back home in such peace and now I understand, but then I didn't. Praise the Lord, that blesses my heart to the fullest. God richly bless you both, actually all 5 of you, lol. Love you all so much.

That is very interesting about your homeland and family. I'm not sure if I pronounce your name correctly or not, but how do you say it? People call me all sorts of names - trying to pronounce Jocelyn!

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - Hi Urailak,

Posted by Michelle122161
We have some things in common.
First, I knew I liked your Thai name.
What a beautiful name (golden appearance)

Some things we have in common:
(1) Passion for God and His Word
(2) Passionate for Christ Jesus
(3) Saving the unborn
(4) Compassion for orphans and widows
(5) I marvel at God's Creation (I love nature scenes)
(6) I smile & laugh a LOT!! (often to the point of too much)
(7) I cry easily (touching songs, movies make me cry)
I was bawling during `Fireproof`. Glad I took a big hanky
(8) I've always enjoyed reading aloud to my kids (no matter how old they get) I attribute the fact that our 15yr LOVES to write stories is because I have always read to him. And people really do like to read his writing.
(9) I LOVE (real) seafood (the kind I used to eat in FL),esp. crab, lobster, shrimp, oysters & mussels. Miss that tasty seafood. We live in GA, but on the side near Al., far away from the coast.

So, I have to ask, what is Salmon cheeks?

BTW, I have a double-award for you at my blog. Please come grab it anytime.

Blessings,
Michelle@JourneyHome
