Next to Jesus, my Lord and Savior, the One whose footsteps I love to follow, Paul is someone I truly admire. He is one of the greatest apostles/missionaries, if not the all-time greatest. His life, his conversion, his missionary journeys, and his passion to spread the Gospel were far from what we would consider "ordinary." Nevertheless, he was an ordinary man, born a sinner like us, made mistakes like us, faced temptations like us, experienced sufferings and pains like us, and struggled with flesh like us. I think that is why we can relate to Paul and yet at the same time, be challenged by his examples to live our lives devotedly to glorify God , to share Christ’s love wherever we are, and to depend totally on God’s grace and mercy and the leading of the Holy Spirit. This book is not only filled with amazingly beautiful photographs capturing the different places Paul visited, but also Bible verses and excerpts from well-known Christian authors. I love photography; therefore, this book is a treat for me. I enjoyed visually following Paul’s path from the time he, known as Saul, persecuted the Christians, his encounter with Christ, his first, second, and third missionary journeys, to his journey to Rome. However, I am disappointed with one thing: an inappropriate picture (nudity) of artwork (mosaic on the floor of one of the upper class Roman houses in Ephesus from around the time of Paul) on page 127. In my opinion, it was neither necessary nor prudent to include that. |
