Saturday, October 18, 2008 Sweetest Day
Today is Sweetest Day (the 3rd Saturday in October). No, it's not a day to have an excuse to eat sweets as much as you can all day :). It was started in the 1920s in Cleveland, Ohio by a man who gave gifts to the sick, the elderly, and the orphans...wanting to cheer them up. Have you been sweet today? :) A kind act, a thoughtful word, a smile, a helping hand, an encouraging note, a prayer for others...are all sweet.
When I heard of Sweetest Day, the song, "The Sweetest Name of All" came to mind because my husband often plays this song on the piano and I love to sing it :).
The Sweetest Name of All
Words and music by Tom Coomes
Jesus, You're the sweetest name of all.
Jesus, You always hear me when I call.
Oh, Jesus, You pick me up each time I fall.
You're the sweetest, the sweetest name of all.
Jesus, how I love to praise Your name.
Jesus, You're still the first, the last, the same.
Oh, Jesus, You died and took away my shame.
You're the sweetest, the sweetest name of all.
Jesus, You're the soon and coming King.
Jesus, we need the love that You can bring.
Oh, Jesus, we lift our voices up and sing.
You're the sweetest, the sweetest name of all.
How sweet Jesus's love for us is! And His name is absolutely the sweetest because "salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) Everyday can be sweetest day when you know Jesus, taste the goodness of God (Psalm 34:8), and feast on His Word ("How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" Psalm 119:103).
May we daily be a sweet aroma pleasing to the Lord! |

Saturday, August 4, 2007 Be Still My Child
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
If you find yourself in turmoil and your life in chaos, please rest in God's mercy & grace and "be still." I hope and pray that this post will encourage others, especially those who are going through a difficult time. May the Lord give you (and me) peace, hope, comfort, and strength!
Be Still My Child
(Song written by Dave Irish)
Be still My child, and simply trust Me
Through the darkness, through the rain, My presence will remain
Be still My child, and just believe
That all is well within My arms, so stay right where you are
I'll be your peace inside the silence, your light inside the dark
And be your hope when it seems all hope is gone
I'll be the shoulder you can cry on, and the anchor you can trust,
And the abiding comfort dwelling deep inside, be still My child
Be still My child, for I'm your covering
Plant yourself in Me down deep, in the shelter of My wings
Be still My child, and just receive,
These messages of hope I send, time and time again
My promises you know are true
My mercies they are ever new
My strength alone will get you through the night
"It is not how troubled the sea is that determines the course of your life; it is who the Pilot is." Anonynous
"The Lord will either calm your storm or allow it to rage while He calms you." Anonymous
"God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on Him." Hudson Taylor
"Stand strong in God...for after winter, summer comes; after night, the day returns; and after a storm, calm is restored." T.a Kempis
"God won't send us where He is unable to sustain us." Anonymous
"Trials are not enemies of faith, but are opportunities to prove God's faithfulness." Anonymous
"It is impossible for that man to despair who remembers that his Helper is omnipotent." Jeremy Taylor |

Friday, April 13, 2007 To God Be the Glory
When I found out that I was chosen as feature blogger of the week, I was stunned. Then this hymn by Fanny Crosby came to my mind. My main goals for having a blog have always been to point people to Jesus, my Lord and Savior, to glorify God, and to encourage others. If I have done any of these, I have not blogged in vain :). I appreciate Homeschoolblogger.com very much for providing that opportunity. I have had such a wonderful experience being here. I have laughed, cried, made friends, gained insights, prayed for those in trials, been blessed & inspired, and had fun. I even won some contests (here and there). My husband won one last year and my eight year old son won one recently. We feel so blessed.
To GOD Be the Glory
By Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
To God be the glory--great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the Lifegate that all may go in.
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev'ry believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son;
But purer and higher and greater will be our wonder,
Our transport, when Jesus we see.
Chorus: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory--great things He hath done.
"I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever." Psalm 86:12 |

Sunday, April 8, 2007 He Lives!
|
IN CHEMISTRY, HE TURNED WATER TO WINE.
IN BIOLOGY, HE WAS BORN WITHOUT THE NORMAL CONCEPTION.
IN PHYSICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF GRAVITY WHEN HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN.
IN ECONOMICS, HE DISPROVED THE LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURN BY FEEDING 5000 MEN WITH TWO FISHES & 5 LOAVES OF BREAD.
IN MEDICINE, HE CURED THE SICK AND THE BLIND WITHOUT ADMINISTERING A SINGLE DOSE OF DRUGS.
IN HISTORY, HE IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END.
IN GOVERNMENT, HE SAID THAT HE SHALL BE CALLED WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, PRINCE OF PEACE.
IN RELIGION, HE SAID NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH HIM.
SO...WHO IS HE?
HE IS JESUS!
The Greatest Man in History
Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.
(Note: The writing above was in an email forwarded to me; I don't know who originally wrote it.)
He Lives
(by Alfred H. Ackley, 1887-1960)
I serve a Risen Savior; He's in the world today.
I know that He is living, whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.
In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And tho my heart grows weary I never will despair.
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing will come at last.
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.
Chorus:He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.
"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:3,4
Let's celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. Let's live our lives in such a way that people will know undoubtedly that Jesus is alive; that He is living in our hearts and guiding our lives!

Sunday, August 6, 2006 Be the Centre
At VBS, we learned some new songs. We also learned sign language that accompanied the songs. I really enjoy doing sign language while singing worship songs. Such a beautiful combination! My favorite song from VBS this year is "Be the Centre" (written by Michael Frye). These are the words that really touch me:
Jesus, be the center
Be my source
Be my light, Jesus
Jesus, be the center
Be my hope
Be my song, Jesus
Be the fire in my heart
Be the wind in these sails
Be the reason that I live, Jesus...Jesus
Jesus, be my vision
O be my path
Be my guide, Jesus
O my Jesus
You are my hope
And You are my Jesus
O You are my Jesus
O Jesus
I hope and pray that I will never lose Christ-centered focus! "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, 'I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" John 8:12 He is my Guiding Light!

Wednesday, July 26, 2006 Be Thou My Vision
"Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Ephesians 5:19-20) I love hymns. They are so rich in messages, meanings, & melodies, and deep in thoughts & feelings about God; they are truly inspiring, and often Scripturally based.
Hymns breathe the praise of the saints,
The vision of the prophets,
The prayers of the penitent and the spirit of the martyrs.
They bring solace to the sad, assurance to the perplexed,
Faith to the doubter and comfort to the oppressed.
They span the centuries of history and bridge the barriers of denominations.
Study them to be pure in heart;
Sing them to be joyful in spirit,
Store them in the mind to possess a treasury of worship.
~Unknown
I never get tired of listening to (or singing) "Be Thou My Vision." The words were translated from the 8th century Irish hymn. These words are so meaningful to me that I want to share with everyone.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Nought be all else to me save that Thou art:
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
I like to quietly sing and reflect upon these words (sometimes with tears in my eyes). This hymn means so much to me because it is not only my all-time favorite hymn, but also my heart's desire and my prayer!
"Unless the Lord builds the house (and homeschool),
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.
Psalm 127:1
