More Poetry

Below are some of the poems written by my 8 year old son (now 9):-

Cinquain

Tornado
dark, powerful
destroying, traveling, twisting
so exciting to watch
Twister

Haiku

              Bear
Bear is a mammal
Bears can be very fearsome
Bears can be cuddly

Acrostic poem

Fall is a time when leaves fall off trees

All of the leaves turn to beautiful colors

Lots of leaves flutter to the ground

Leaves are then ready for raking

Acrostic poem

Flowery

Lovely beaches

Oranges

Rain

International Worm Fiddling Contest

Down tip

Atlantic Ocean

Quatrain

I want to go hiking everyday

Because I enjoy God's creation

I like the animals and plants

Hiking is lots of fun

Noun Verse

     Oregon

beautiful, forested

raining, snowing

     My state

Tanka

            Oregon

big forests in green

meadows in bright profusion

high desert in bloom

rivers flowing clear and blue

ocean waves crash on the shore

Sonnet

The forest is nice in summer's delight

The forest is great in winter's splendor

The stars sparkle in the cold forest's nights

The mountain's east side is often drier

The forest has sprung up when spring begins

The forest in fall bursts with bright colors

Of every hue that you could imagine

These are all made by God our Creator

The ocean's big waves that crash on the shore

Carve away the hard rocks and sand sculptures

The tiny microscopic mushroom's spores

Are taken by the wind to wherever

How great and diverse is God's creation

He made everything from bugs to the sun

Haiku is a hit around here :).

Since the deadline has been extended, my son and I decided to enter the haiku contest, too.  Here is the link to the contest: www.homeschoolblogger.com/4evrHischild/279489/.

                                                    Winter Time (by J.S.L., 8)

                                                 Snowy, frosty ice

                                       Bears hibernate, birds migrate

                                           Harsh, cold resting time

                                                  White Winter (by Me)

                                      Nature scenes turn white

                                  Kids and snow...full of wonder

                                      God's awesome design!

SnOw MUCH FUN!

On Tuesday we woke up to be deligthfully surprised by the beautiful blanket of snow (about 3 inches).  It was enough for sledding :)!  My lovely husband took half a day off to go sledding with us.  We went to a baseball field nearby that has a perfect hill for sledding.  We had a blast!  We took a lunch break and then we went back again for the second round of fun.  That was not quite enough for us still :).  We took another break and then the kids did more sledding in front of our house (we live on a hill) on our driveway and on the sidewalk.

Yesterday (Wed.) and today we have done school but every break we had...yep, we went outside sledding.  I don't think I'll ever be too old to get excited about snow and sledding .

My 8 year old son wrote a cute acrostic poem today about "snow":

Snow is so much fun.

Nicer than playing in the sun.

Oh, I like it so, so much.

We like sledding a ton.

Our Budding Song Writer

Our 7 year old son wrote his first song today.  He has such a passion for reaching the world for God!  I wish you all could hear him sing his song.

         This world lies in darkness.
God, You are the only One who can turn this world
         from its wicked ways.
Let the unreached know that You are with them
         anywhere...anytime.
Let them know that You'll comfort and protect them...
for You are the only One who can turn this world
         from its wicked ways
         from its wicked ways
         from its wicked ways
         from its wicked ways.
