Great Minds Think Alike When...

You and a sister are going to post about the exact same thing without saying anything!!!! So, we decided to combine posts.
Lately, I have been feeling "crafty". It started with reading a book called MaryJanes Stiching room (by MaryJane Butters) that we took out of the library last week I think. She has all kinds of "stiching projects" including tatting! I liked the looks of it and so I decided to try it out. Soon after that, I bought a book Learn Needle Tatting-step-by-step used that came with four needles. It is addictive!!! I've been doing it every day since!! It is a lot easier than it looks. So I made a few projects and took pictures to put on here:
~This is me tatting

~My first project

~This is the same pattern as the one above only I added another ring of chains on top of that

~This is a hankie that I had for awhile. I crocheted around the edge and on top of that I am tatting

And then soon after that, I pulled out some of my crocheting projects that I started awhile back.
~This is lace that I am crocheting Jessica. In this picture, I haven't blocked it yet, so it looks a little rumpled. I crocheted 2 yards for a blouse she is making. Maybe she will post pictures of it all done later!

~A close up...it looks kind of yellow. Probably because of the turquoise background and I used the flash when I took the picture.

~This is while it is being blocked

~I had to put a pin on every single picot!! No, I did not count!

~This is me crocheting

~The finished project!! I made a mistake!! It is a supposed to be a hexagon...but on the very first round I did three stiches to few and made it a star. Oh well, at least it still turned out!!

Soon, I'm going to tat a bracelet with beads if I can figure it out. All the patterns for tatting with beads are with shuttles and I don't have those!!!! So I have to figure out my own pattern.
~Susannah
Thank you Susannah for sharing your post with me : )
When we got the MaryJane's Stitching Room book, I also got excited! One of my goals this year is to crochet a doily. I am more of a knitter than a crocheter, and I really wanted to be able to make doilies and crocheted lace. Tatting was not in the list at all! But once I saw how easy it was (and found out that not many people do it anymore), I wanted to learn how to tat! Susannah was most gracious and let me use one of her tatting needles . I am anxious to buy some of my own now : )
Here is my first attempt at tatting .
Below is a picture of me making a medallion like Susannah made in one of the pictures above. I didn't even realize that I was making something, until I had already done a few "rounds" of the tatting! I thought it was just practice.

Another picture of the medallion half done : )

And completed!!! I am so excited to have learned how to do this! I can't wait to do more .
