"King" and RePete
Posted on Sep. 9, 2009 in Goats or Animals
First, I need to make some introductions. "King" is the german shepherd dog we blogged about a week ago, and RePete is our goose. I know. Strange name. But his father's name was Pete. That should explain RePete's name : )
"King"

You can see a picture of "RePete" up on our header : D
* * *
A few days ago, Susannah said she heard a dog barking, so she looked out the window and saw a german shepherd dog chasing the school bus! Later, when I was out milking, I saw him chase our neighbor's van as she was taking her kids to school---silly dog!
Well, the dog also chased the neighbor when she came over that morning to exercise with Mommy, and ever since has been hanging around our property. We were wary of him at first, because we've had some scary experiences with strange dogs. Especially strange big dogs. However, he is very friendly, and Susannah discovered he knows how to "sit", "stay", and "shake hands" : D It is so cute! Susannah also looked at his teeth and thinks he's only six months to a year old. Mommy was going to call to have someone come get the dog, but everybody has been begging her to wait until we ask Daddy if we can keep him . I have to admit, I really like that dog! Daddy said yes, as long as we were willing to really pare down our rabbits. Our poor rabbits don't get much love, and when you have to pay $10 a week in feed, just to feed a bunch of rabbits that nobody likes much, it gets kind of old : ) It was getting old for those who didn't have to pay, but just had to take care of them : ) We went from 23 rabbits, down to 10, and that will soon be reduced to only 6 that we are going to keep. One lady came and got several of them saying she was down to eighty rabbits from the 100+ she had this spring. Better yet, every single one of her rabbits are spoiled!
So that is how King came, and how he got to stay.
Meanwhile, he's been kind of ornery!
A few days after he came to us, he got in with the goats and was chasing them and the goose around. It is quite funny, by the way, to see that goose afraid of the dog, because before the dog came, the goose was the king of the property. But now there is a new "King" : D Well, I was not able to catch him as easily as before, and so I was running around trying to catch him, and shouting "King! No! Stop that!".
He and the goose got into it, and when I saw RePete's neck in King's mouth, I was almost sure I was going to see the goose's end! I was really yelling and shouting at him by that point : D Thankfully, the goose bit King hard enough that King had a little more respect for him. Both "kings" are afraid of each other now : )
At one point he chased all the goats into the barn, and as I stood beside the doorway (to be out of the way of the goats when they came flying out!), three of the goats charged right for me and knocked me off my feet! Thankfully they went under or around me, and not on top of me! Even better than that, my dress did not get goat droppings on it like I thought it would
We were telling some friends, the Knapps, about it, and they asked if we were going to post some pictures of it on our blog. Only thing is--we forgot to take pictures : D We were too busy yelling at the dog and afraid the goose was going to die! Our friends said that we could reenact it and take pictures then---even a videotape!
I don't think we'll take that chance though...

Posted on Sep. 2, 2009 in Goats or Animals
Here are some pictures of the kitten's that my cat had:

It is SO cute when they play together!

This one's name is Sam.

I really liked this one.
One of them (Sam) Died because of our dog Clover : (
I think Clover was just playing, but she picked the kitten up and shook it :-( So we think his neck was broken.

Funny Old Man....
Posted on Apr. 6, 2009 in Goats or Animals
Well, he's actually not old, nor is he a man....he's a buck!! Anyways, I was in the barn taking pictures and took this video of him playing with his food dish...that has a hole in it.

Toward the end, I lost focus, but the beginning it pretty funny! He will flip over the pan with is mouth or hoof, then hook his horn on it and carry it around.
Enjoy!!!

Titles DO ruin posts!! I think I'll call it, "Start reading!!": D
Posted on Jan. 29, 2009 in Goats or Animals
So I'll ruin the post by starting the post with I want to post about!! Now what was it?! : D
IT'S A BOY! No, IT'S TWINS!! ACTUALLY, IT'S TRIPLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not kidding! Only goats do that and mine did early this morning!!!! Last night I noticed that Molly, my Nubian goat had some signs that kidding was near, so the setting up and around of pens began!! We had to move the two baby goats from the kidding pen (that had the heat lamp) to where the buck was. And the buck had to go to the other side of the barn in another pen!! Believe me, its not that easy!! But I'm glad that I did it because then, I would have had to do it early this morning! (Thank you Jessica for helping me!!! : ) Last night, before I went to bed, I set my alarm clock for 3:00a.m. (and convinced a sister to go out with me ) so I could check on her. Last year in February, She had 2 kids in the middle of the night and one got the tips of it's ears frostbitten! Later on, they fell off. Yes, I did mean the ears!! But not the whole ear, the bottom halves. In this picture -if you can see it- is him (and me!) and his ears, or lack of ears : D He is a bit older and this is at our 4-H fair.

Here is him and his sister when we had to bring them inside because it was so cold! At least once a year we end up bringing a couple of goats inside.

Aren't they adorable?!?!
Okay, I think I was getting on a bunny trail! So, about getting up early...I ended up sleeping through my alarm clock because I did not fall asleep until almost midnight (I am NOT a night person! And that was due to sleeping during the day--due to being sick : ) My alarm clock is a loud alarm clock!! I have NO idea how I can sleep through it! But, that is beside the subject. Jessica woke me up at 6:30 for breakfast and I realized that I had not gotten up at 2!! I jumped out of bed and went straight to the barn!! And this is what I saw!!!

I just LOVE goats!! Especially BABY GOATS!!!!!!
In the top picture, is the mother and one of the bucks, (2) is the doe and (3) is the other buck! They look like Alpines because their father is an Alpine. I like crossbreed goats...you can confuse people with them!! ; D (Once I had a Oberhäsli/Nubian and it looked like an Alpine!!)
I got up early for breakfast...but had breakfast at 8:30ish. Now, they have shirts on, (we cut a sleeve off of an old sweatshirt and cut a place for their legs...they look quite cute!) so you can't see their markings as well. Since the doe look almost exactly like one of the bucks, I put a pink shirt on the doe and white on the bucks.
Well, I suppose I should stop...I have sister waiting to get on. : )
~Susannah
Oops!! Almost forgot...while looking for pictures from last year, I found this...our pet lion! He is quite nice actually, although he does look rather frightening in this picture.

Almost 5,000 vistors since last September!!!!!!!! And 414 comments!!! Keep 'em coming!!!!!
