Hulett's Place

Middle of week 4 of 09/10 year

8:40 AM, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 .. 0 comments .. Link

Well, I think I have finally fallen into a very workable routine for our year. O has a reading class at 8:30 -10 M-F so I drop her off then come home and N and I work on his subjects, at 9:50 I go pick up O we come home and work on her subjects, have lunch and then have the afternoon off. She does a worksheet from her reading class in the afternoon and puts it on the fridge ready for the next day.

I am doing well on this routine.

Root Hair Experiment

Nathan is working on an experiment for LifePac 6 science. He will be growing some corn and then looking at the root hairs under the microscope. He is getting all the materials together.

Started our 6th year

11:15 AM, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 .. 0 comments .. Link

August 25, 2009 marked the starting of our 6th year homesschooling.  Olivia is still struggling with reading so this year we have her in the public school for 1.5hrs each day to work on her reading/phonics skills.  Its going well. She enjoys going and is making friends. She has "homework" each night and is completing it successfully. She is still plugging away at her grade 2 LifePac's and will be starting grade 3 in a few weeks.  Nathan is enjoying working in the grade 6 LifePacs and is acceling quickly, he has even said he really likes this year because he gets to work in books instread of the computer (previously used SOS).  He works hard and is easily frustrated due to his lack of self confidence. I know though that when he sees his A grades he will start to build that confidence again, he is one of those kids that hates to make mistakes and expects perfection in all he does.

Our greatest joy this year is that dad is finally on board 100% with homeschooling, in years past he has been about 75% on board but this year he sees the benefits and rewards that come with this schooling choice. He works out of town during the week and is home on the weekends and every 2-3 weeks has 9 days off so he sees that this can mean spur of the moment vacations.

Fun with friends

8:15 AM, Friday, July 10, 2009 .. 1 comments .. Link

Last night the kids and I went to a friends house for a family bunko night and BBQ.  It was loads of fun.  Nathan was dubbed Bunko Hands because he at the age of 11 had 9 wins by the end of the night.  I have the most bunkos so got a prize (a  new wooded rolling pin).

We brought a meat to grill (chicken and pork kabobs) and a green salad. There was lots of wonderful food but I being pre-diabetic did good on my choices and totally skipped desert.

Got home at 10pm and literally fell in to bed.

Hubby comes home today and we are so missing him so we will have a great weekend.

Morning headache

6:02 AM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 .. 1 comments .. Link

Ugh!!! This morning I woke up with a headache, it was my own doing really since yesterday I skipped my morning coffee because of no creamer.  So I go get dressed, do my hair, start the coffee and go to Safeway.  Where they open??? No!! 15minutes and they would be but  I needed creamer and bread now.  So I opted to go to the Kum-N-Go for a quick coffee, French Vanilla Capaccino Charger (extra caffine).

I am home now but darn I hate it when that happens.

Still Organizing and decluttering

7:09 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 .. 0 comments .. Link

We have been busy today getting organized and decluttering.  We listed everything on Freecycle and everything should be gone by this evening.  Got rid of fabric, bedding, and sewing stuff.  It was way over due and I feel so much lighter.

The kids have their rooms cleaned, dishwasher is done and needing unloaded and laundry is midway.  I even got some sewing in this afternoon (doll clothes for my store)

The kids are all registered for indoor and outdoor projects N is in 1 each and O has 4 outdoor and 1 indoor.  We are patiently waiting for pictures to arrive so that we can finish our indoor projects.  Indoor projects have to be in Tuesday morning so I hope the pictures arrive soon so they can have enough time to put their photo montage's  together with all the writing involved.

Thanks for reading,

G~~

Developing a plan

There has been alot of things going on i(n the Hulett house these days.   Hubby (Hunky Monkey as I like to call him now) is still working for the UPRR but is out of town during the week.  This last week however he has been home.  It was a great week with him.  Nathan and Olivia have gone fishing, HM and I have been gone for a ride out to the lake on the Harley and had a picnic for 2 with the dog at our heels.  All in all it was a good week.

I have mapped out about the first 10 weeks for our 09-10 school year which will start on Sept 14, 2009.  We will be using AOP's Life Pac (LA, Hist/Geog & Science) for both kids along with Math U See and Writing Strands.  Our computer is dieing so we wont have much todo on there except for keeping grades.

I have started a bible study with some of the other local HSing mom's its called "Homeschooling at life speed" by Marilyn Rockett.  We are currently on chapter 3 and we will have this Thursday and then have 2 weeks off for county fair since most of our kids will have 4H projects to do durning those weeks.

Olivia is doing dog project and had already been involved in a dog show in Cheyenne at the beginning of the year and did very well. Out of the 6 events she came home with 2 First Places ribbons (Rally and Pole Bending), 1 Second Place Ribbon (Obsticale Course), 1 Third Place Ribbon (Obediance), 1 Fifth Place Ribbon (Costume). We were very proud of her and Frenchie.  She will have 3 events at fair, Showmanship, Obedience and either Rally or something else I am not familiar with (I am really hopeing its Rally).

Nathan is in Archary this year and took 5th place in County Shoot which is really cool since its also his first year.  He is finished with his classes which were held on Thursday evenings.  He is not sure if he wants to continue with this project next year or go on to dog project.

Some of you may not know but I am now a grandma, yup a 42yo grandma.  Hagen Lee is bringing lots of join and challenges to our home.  He is learning to crawl and we are now having to re-babyproof our home after 8yrs of not having a baby in the house. He pulls up on alot of things now too but finds himself backwards on his bum since he hasn't figured out how to gracefully get down from a standing.  Homeschool books and supplies are still with in reach but he is learning not to touch them.  I do have his toys down on a shelf so he can touch something there though.  He is expanding his food choices and really likes Cheerios, toast, green beans, peas, mac and cheese and alot more foods.

Well, that is about it for now, thanks for letting us update you on our home/family

I know I know I know

Its been FOREVER since I have blogged but for good reason.  Back problems again started in December 08 and are still a huge chunk of my life right now, with Dr visits and PT 2x a week.

The kids are mvoing right along though and we will be starting our 09-10 year on Sept 14, 2009.

Oh and I am a grandma now too.  Oct 15, 2008 Hagen Lee joined our family.  He was 6.14 and 19".

Blog talk radio and more

2:26 PM, Tuesday, May 12, 2009 .. 0 comments .. Link

I am so excited to share this with you all. I have decided to start a blog talk radio  show.  I am in the beginning stages of the process right now but I can tell you it will be on different topics from homeschool, to home management, diabetic diet, mothering boys, mothering children with wide age differences and much more.

I think my greatest update here is that in Oct 2008 I became a grandmother to a beautiful baby boy.  Mommy is working these days and since they live with us I get to baby sit alot.  I am so happy that my life is more full now.

Check back often to see when our BTR debut is scheduled.

2008 year end

6:29 AM, Sunday, December 28, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

Well, this year is almost over and I really don't have much to show for it except a few pounds gone, me another year older and the kids growing up to fast.  Sometimes I wonder what I am actually ment to do besides what I have chosen.  Each year I make goals and miss the mark all together.  I try to be the wife and mother I am supposed to be but life happens and I again feel like I have failed.  My house is a wreak and my marriage seems to be just going with the flow.

I guess the only good out of this year was God blessing me with a grandson that I don't even get to see anymore because he and his mommy moved 1200 miles away to be with her dead beat husband.

My puppy is also a good thing she is constantly by my side (and now as I type) and she loves me unconditionally.

Well, as we enter another year I guess I will just continue believing God has great things for me and keep on keepin' on.

Blessings for a bountiful year everyone,

G~~~

Life changes so fast

5:28 PM, Friday, December 19, 2008 .. Posted in Family .. 0 comments .. Link

Well, yesterday I was preparing lesson plans so for if someone were to come in and teach my kids after surgery.  Well, I am not having surgery any time in the near future but instead having an epidural cortisone injection.  I am rather nervous about this because I will be awake during it.

The kids have been rather antsy so today I shoo'd them out the back door in to the snow for about 30 mins and they had a blast. When they returned they were much calmer.  We got out our Origami book again (second day in a row) and made some fun water bombs and star boxes.  The kids put them on the Christmas tree for more decorations.

Today I was able to print out our Christmas letter, fold them and put them in the cards.  They are all ready to send out tomorrow.  I truly feel a sense of accomplishment now.

We are now waiting for Daddy to get home and he will make hamburgers.  Nathan was able to put a pan of fries in the oven and we will toss a salad for some added roughage.

Dispite being in my recliner for the last few days my house isn't falling down and it is still in rather good shape.

Preparations for another person to teach in my recovery period

Well, yesterday was actually a productive day dispite just sitting in my recliner.  I was able to print out a lesson plan for Olivia's schooling and plug in her information so that if I do have someone come in to teach them when we commence back to school on January 5, 2009 they will have a detailed list of what I do with her.  As for Nathan I just wrote it out in letter form as to what he does on the computer with SOS.  I also put in their extra curricular activities like swimming and keepers/contenders.  I feel more comfortable now that I know they will be well cared for and whom every it is that comes in can just follow the lesson plan.
