Aug. 8, 2006 - A CONTEST
http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/JacqueDixonSoulRestES/178599/ is having a contest, I've never entered one before but I thought the questions were interesting. So here are mine.
What type of homeschooler are you?How do you homeschool? (Do you plan??)
I like to think of myself as a loosely structured homeschool. We have what I like to call a 'flow' to my morning, they don't necessarily happen at a certian time but rather a sequence of things happen. This gives us time for interuptions and unforseen distractions.
Are you using a specific curriculum or a conglomeration or none?
I am using a variety this year....I don't like being boxed in. We are using Saxon Math, Learning Language Arts through Literature, Exploring Creation through Astronomy, a Canadian History and Geography course, Prima Latina, and a French course. So I guess you would call me eceltic.
Are you making it up yourself?
Not this year, tried it last year and discovered it was a lot of work and I wasn't very good at it.
Do you have a plan or just use ideas as you go?
I have a yearly set of goals that I then break it down in to a weekly plan each Sunday night as to what we will be doing for the coming week. That way I have an idea of where we need to go but can take detours if a concept is not being undstood completely.
Do you homeschool in desks, at the table or anywhere it works??
We work at the kitchen table. We have a big rubber maid container that holds our supplies, it sits on a cabnet in the kitchen during the week and can be easily stashed in the closet when we don't want to be reminded that the kitchen is also the schoolroom. Using the kitchen table also make sure we clean up at the end of each day or we don't have a place to eat dinner.
Tell me what you are excited about that you will be doing!
We are excited about science and trying a different approach to Language Arts this year.
Are you going to teach each child in their own grade level or do you multi-grade each?
I only have one in school this year, but I do have to find a way to entertain the 2 year old.
