I don't know because the only dog we have had that i was old anough to remember just died acouple of
months ago and he was a sheep dog so he couldn't atack farm animals.
OH MAN! Wow!!! Is your dog young? What breed? We have poodles and they kill lots of birds. Most people don't know this but poodles were originally breed in Germany as hunting dogs. That is why the have shaved legs but poofs of fur around the ankles. The little 'poofs' are for catching thorns, but the rest is removed for further prevention of getting snagged and tangled in the woods. Over the years poodles have gotten bad reputations. But if you set poodles in the river-they'll catch fish!
Anyhow all I can suggest is getting a full basket of sqweeky toys and plush stuffed animals. Spank you dog on the nose (and/or put her in a cage) for 10-15 min. Praise her when she plays/chews up the basket toys. If she is a pup then she is probably just just teething!!
It's been several months since you posted about this.. Is he still doing that?? I think I have a solution if he is.. Put a leash on him,but put it tight right behind the ears and walk out to where your chickens are.. Have a family member hold a chicken in front of the puppy and when he jumps to get it,snap the leash backwards and pull him back and tell him No in a affirmative tone.. Keep doing this till his obbsession with killing chickens is over :)
He's probably out grown it since you posted this,but there's help if you need it still.. I have a Springer spaniel,which they are hunting dogs,and we have a bird so.... We tried this on ours and it worked,now he doesn't pay attention to our bird.. Now he trys to eat everything else in the house :)
