Oct. 4, 2006 - Love the Chickens
We too are studying chickens, we have americanas, rhode island reds, 1 buff orphington, featherlegged cochin bantams and dominiquers. We were missing a few and then we spotted a chicken hawk flying around yesturday. This morning there are now three eyeing our flock. Do ya'll have that problem?
We have an incubator / plus let the hens hatch some out as well.

Oct. 21, 2006 - hawks
There are definitely hawks in the area! We have seen them eyeball the chickens, but we have alot of cover for the girls.
They usually lay low when a hawk is near, under bushes or trees and out of the open.
We have not lost any yet, I did get breeds (the majority)specifically for free ranging and alertness>(Minus the Reds, and Leghorns, and probably the Americaunas)

I sure hope that you do not lose anymore!!
