Science in everyday Life

I find it amusing, that as an adult daily I use those skills which I saw little use for as a child and even teen. Science, especially Biology and Chemistry really were not my "thing"!

Yet daily I use the Science of Biology, and even more so chemistry in life.

We grow organic Gradens and have free range organically nurtured and supplemented chickens.

My Business is Soap Making and Spa Bath and Body and Natural Care Products, I even make them for our numerous Pets.

My father bless his heart, says that I am not a "real Farmer" as the animals (including chickens) should not all have names! :o)

Back to my point everyday for every batch of soap that I make and every lotion that I create I use Chemistry!!

Who would have know that I would actually LOVE chemistry!!!

We use it in our garden , we use it in our own adventure toward better Health, as we steer away from medicine and follow what Hippocrates himself said.

"Let food be your medicine and Medicine be your food"  I would love to see Dr's put that one into practice!!

Hippocrates in case you did not know, is the Father of Medicine.

His ideas of medicine at least were sound.

Anyway encourage your children to enjoy Science!

My 6 Yo is reading the vegetable Gardeners Bible for her science and she is LOVING it!

We started out with 2nd greade Science, which talked about seeds and plants and planning a garden, so we got busy on that.

I asked her if she wanted to learn more about how to make her garden healthier and keep the bugs out of it.,and she answered with a resounding "YES"!

So she  will be working her way through composting , as well as uinderstanding that healthy plants do not attract bugs as frequently. How to use "good bugs' to benefit the garden. As wel las the fact that all plant health starts in the soil. SO she will be learning alot of concepts beyond a normal 6 yo curriculum.

She already has the knowledge of the importance of PH levels, not only for the garden but for our lives, and our own bodies.

I wish I would have grasped that at 6!!

Here are some pictures of what we have done this year in and out of the garden.

ENJOY!!
We certaily are!
