• Nov. 30, 2006 - The new neighbors have moved in

Posted in Life
Of course I said I would not blog, but I often have to eat my words!
I was talking with a fellow blogger and commenting that this would be a good way to journal the daily grind, and help myself remember life.  I find in my, ahem, old-age, that I am not remembering as I use to.  Anyway, on to the subject for today...

My children have been praying for some new home school neighbors.  Our last neighbors rarely showed themselves outside the house.  They had a child, but alas, she was a girl.  And a girl that wanted nothing to do with my boys.  I cannot imagine why!  I should not have had so little faith, but I admit that I kept telling them that it was very unlikely that we would have neighbors that home school.  Well we do have new neighbors, and they actually have kids.  Which, out where we live, is unusual.  I feel like this is a whole new chapter of our lives!  (I do not feel like I have finished the current chapter!  Things are moving too fast!)  There is a boy and a girl.  Ages 10 and 13.  My children are ecstatic!  The new kids immediately invited my children to play hide-and-seek with some other neighbors and themselves.  They had a fantastic time.  I look forward to meeting the grandparents of the kids.  This will honestly be one of the first opportunities that my children have had to make friends with children that are not home schooled, outside of their friends at church.  How weird is that, and how weird am I!  This is going to be an interesting chapter, and one of which I am entering into in a tentative manner.

Any words of wisdom?  But, some of you out there were unsure if I could post, so you may never see this!

That you posted, that is!! And it is great for the boys to have neighbors their age, as well. You know we have a girl next door the same age as Laurel, and it has been SO wonderful. There has never been a conflict about homeschooling vs. PS, although it has come up in their own conversation now and then. And, hilariously, their favorite game to play is school. I expect THAT won't be a game played at your house, with the neighbors being that age!! But anyway, I'm so glad you posted!

Sarah stole my comment! But I am glad to see you actually posting, and I look forward to reading your blog ;-) Of course everyone is different, but as Sarah said it's never been an issue with Laurel and our neighbor. Hopefully you will have the same experience. Mostly kids are kids, and being able to play hide and seek is probably a lot more important to them than where they spend their weekdays.

I checked your blog faithfully every day, knowing full well that one day I would actually find a posting here. And that day came.

I totally understand your cautionary stance about the new neighbor children. There are plenty of reasons for a person to become Queen of a Really Big Hill like mine, and that was one of the determining factors. However, your neighbors sound like zebras of a different color stripe than my old ones -- I predict that they will be a blessing over the long haul.

So many firsts in such a short time! Didn't you just try sushi for the very first time this evening?? (And actually liked it!) It could be a sign of things to come!

I should be a better neighbor and figure out if there's a non-road access between our yards. I'm sure my guys could 4-wheel over ... and now that the lake is down, we could mud-trek!

And if muddy floors and dishes in the sink don't offend you ... stop by anytime ... okay after 9am ... we should be out of PJ's by then.
