I love the outdoors!

Yes, please reserve the comments on how long it has been since I blogged!  Life in my neck of the woods has been very interesting!

I am reading an English assignment that my just-turned-7 year old wrote today.  I wonder what a 1st grade teacher would think once reading his sentences, which were supposed to have all the nouns and verbs labeled.  (Please forgive me because I will break all 11 rules of grammar in this one entry!)

The assignment for my son went like this...Copy 3 sentences from your book, and label the nouns and verbs.  No problem!

"Mom, may I write my own sentences?"

"Sure!"

Well, the results caused his brothers to roll in the floor!  And it went like this:

1.  The dog farted.

2.  The dog used the cat to wack the other dog.

3.  We threw the cat over the gate and hit a dog.

4.  When the cat hit the dog the dog bit the cat as if it was a chew toy.

Before you call all the animal rights people on us, I will say that my son loves animals.  But he is all about making his brothers, and anyone else laugh.  And apparently, these topics were ones he knew would elicit roars of laughter!

Oh, and he got all the nouns and verbs labeled correctly!

He managed to fit creative writing within a grammar lesson... doesn't get any better than that!

I very much enjoyed our chat today. Thank you so much for coming over. Here's a lovely verse about friendship for you: "Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel." Pro 27:9

aren't getting such creative sentences to even consider! Nor are they regularly getting every noun and verb labeled correctly! No matter what they say ... it isn't happening that way!

I think that must have been the screeching cat we heard yesterday ... followed by the diabolical laughter of boys!!!

let me just say that if G. is writing like that, WOW!! He is marked for creativity, to be sure!! Please tell him that the high schoolers in my grammar class can't even identify all the nouns and verbs! Maybe I need to give them more exciting sentences.....

How wonderfully creative. And how totally like a boy. I hope you laughed with them.
